to be fair i think the european leagues have enough notice to get their shit in order to prepare for this i.e. whether to slowly stagger the change over a number of years or just one hit. Personally this was inevitable that this was going to happen and i dont begrudge Qatar winning this but i would question whether it was all above board from the start.

The world doesnt revolve around the european leagues and we cannot expect players and fans to be out in that heat either. On a positive, at least we wont have our usual poor christmas run!

It was farcical to give it to Qatar full stop! They only got it because of the money not because of the football..... I cannot name a single team who play club football in Qatar!

Sepp Blatter ( and buddies ) cashed in by doing two World Cups at once.... Knowing he would be too old to go through another selection. Nothing to do with Football or leagues.

To be fair they are as entitled to make an application as much as England are, I think they will do a great job. Money will certainly be chucked at it but they are working on how the stadiums can be transported to other countries who cannot afford stadia.

The problem for me, even if you ignore all the humanitarian issues, is that the terms for submitting bids were for the world cup to be played at a certain time of year. When Qatar was picked there were lots of questions about how they could play in the heat but FIFA and Qatar insisted it wasn't an issue. I think they need to run the process again so people know exactly what they are voting for.

There is a local side here looking for one of those stadiums but only if they are free !

80% of WC players play in European Leagues which will be disrupted for 2 months. The Country is the Size of a postage stamp Baking in the Sun with no Football tradition run by an undemocratic Elite who care nothing about the working and payment conditions of the near Slave foreign workers. not a good comparison to England - but no doubt a lot of FIFA delegates and their dubious leader were financialy convinced. Anyway the discussion is welcome distraction from the more pressing problem of a Nation currently Annexing it's neighbours Hosting the 2018 WC.

The only 2 bids to be flagged as higher than 'low risk' by FIFA's own inspection committee were awarded the tournament. Australia should have been given 2022, a country that has a more genuine (and longer term) interest in football and already has the stadia. Also a new part of the world to hold the tournament in which is something else Blatter was using to justify Qatar.

I thought it was called the world cup not the european cup...... my mistake....

Dont disagree the process was less than legit but it doesnt stop them applying and winning regardless how big their country is or how rich their footballing history is though does it?

The bid should have been taken out of the process due to the lack of information around when the games would be played but FIFA, UEFA etc all failed to pick this up when voting. It's done now so for me it is about looking forward to it rather than finding excuses to either not attend or if we do badly. Who knows we may fail to qualify!

I find it very funny that the press are talking about it improving England's chances of winning the tournament when qualification itself is ages away. FIFA are unfit for purpose and the award of these 2 tournaments to the only ones which had concerns raised over them is testament to that. Russia is a place where transgender folk aren't allowed driving licenses because of 'mental illness' and Qatar is one where homosexuality is illegal. Not the image I'd want to send out were I FIFA but I guess their pockets were well lined.

We are know that England have no chance regardless of what part of the year it's played. Hopefully blatter gets moved on but I think it will take a lot to do so.

With the layout of the country it could be a brilliant tourny. Could easily do 3 games in a day which is a good thing. Everything should be ready unlike Brazil who are still building an airport now that was meant to be open in time for last summer. This one isn't as big an issue as Russia who shouldn't be anywhere near the World Cup. I do think with what's going on there FIFA may be forced to come cap in hand to either us, the Americans or the Germans to bail them out and give them a place to host it.

The way how they were awarded it was farsicle. Neither of those two tournies were awarded correctly.

2022 should be like every other, played in the summer. Why wasn't it stated in the bidding process it wouldn't be? That alone should call for a revote. More so, so should the already appalling death toll on the building sites.

Where next? Antarctica?

As a kid I thought the WC was about football and it would be played somewhere where you could play football. I am amazed at the choices of a desert and of a country ruled by a cleptocracy. Blatter has doubled up the selection to get a hefty whack before he gets too old. He will hang on to the power as long as possible to avoid any successor finding out all the badness. He has enough people in his pocket to survive. FIFA's corruption is an open secret and it is no coincidence they keep their status a s a "club" rather than a PLC. As a PLC they would undergo regular tax inspections and be accountable to share owners.
