Life ban for racist comments (3 Viewers)

Bradford city will consider a lifetime ban for a supporter who allegedly made racist comments towards a reading player .
How do you feel about this ?
Ofcourse the offender should be punished .. but does an idiotic comment deserve what is effectively a 50-60 year ban .
Im on the fence in regards to the severity of the punishment , but i do believe racism needs kicking out . I also believe in second chances though and think a 3-4 year ban and a hefty police fine is a worthy punishment .
Whats your opinion on this matter

Yeah, i think on the surface that lifetime is a bit OTT, but I guess it depends on what he said and whether he has previous history.

Certainly should be 3 year ban minimum. There is no place for racism in football or anywhere else to my mind.

Once a racist always a racist, which means you are a racist for life. Nothing will change your views so a life time ban seems fair to me. I'm Irish and see all sorts of shit written and said about the Irish. I hate it but have to put up with it because being Irish, I'm "white". Doesn't seem to be racist to some people somehow.

I know a couple of blokes who are a bit older than me.....in their early 50's now...back in the late 70's & early 80's, they were young, dumb & racist.....got caught up in all that NF shit....

not sure what was exactly said but i think there is a need to consistency here, they cannot ban this chap for life and the Chelsea lot get a less harsh outcome (not saying they are). If the agreement is that anyone who has been charged with racism at football gets a life ban then thats fine with me as long as that decision is consistent.

It cannot be tolerated and will send a strong message out.

Inexcusable behaviour but there is a problem here. Footballers are regularly given a chance to rehabilitate. Woman beating, racism, drug taking, manslaughter. So surely the fan should be afforded the same opportunity?

Is it one persons word against another or did many people hear the comments? Thirdly people do change, and people can say stupid things that they don't really mean in the heat of the moment.

I think with cases like this there are too many variables to have a blanket ruling. If there is evidence against him then surely a few years ban is enough?

Also something I can never understand is its rightly unacceptable to make offensive remarks about someone's race at a football match, yet it seems perfectly acceptable to make offensive remarks about someone's weight or height. When is that going to change?

Well not really. In the true sense of the word there is no such thing as a racist comment, it would be a racial comment.

Racism is a form of discrimination. From what we know about this incident, is that somebody dished out verbal abuse, and verbal abuse isn't a form of discrimination.

What we allegedly have here is verbal racial abuse.

Your still taking a physical aspect of a person and using it as an insult.

I imagine most people would agree. Many people find it upsetting when they become the target of abuse.
