Would be a shame I think if he was sent back for Ricketts. I doubt he would want too much money, would he be worth it as a backup?

Against Port Vale he messed up forcing JOB into a foul they scored from the resulting free kick. Prior to that he slowed up and a player 2 meters behind him wanted it more and trotted past him. Not even at great pace.
He gave away a stupid free kick in a dangerous area again tonight.
I would like Pugh to bugger off personally and Stokes be given a proper pre season to get his fitness. Then him and Haynes compete.
However for now Rickets or Haynes would do for me.

Still has a lot to learn but what he's learnt in this short time with us tells me he can make the step up. Seems to be learning something between every training session.

Has pulled up twice now (Sheff Utd? and today) with cramp but I guess he's put his body through a hell of a lot this past 28 days than he has for most of his Young playing career so that's understandable.
I certainly think he's one to keep

not 100% sure we are the right team to be trying to bring him up to standard i find he makes alot of naive mistakes usually showing players onto their strong side or into a better position then they were in although you could say that about alot of our defenders

Can we afford "backup players"? That's the youth team generally here, even Conference pro's are probably on more than the kids. Plus in the sense of progress/growth, any player we sign has to be a genuine contender for a regular first team place, with the possible exception of 'keepers.

Wonder what's happened with his day job? :thinking about:

Most of the Conference is full-time these days.

Especially with a well-off chairman.

Albeit maybe not so well-off if his ex-wife wins her case against him!

There's a TV series in that...Football Chairmen's Wives? There's a few of them that are a bit crackers...

Deserves a deal. Gets little support defensively which is why he seems exposed at times. Gets forward reasonably well and a real threat in the air from set pieces. Give him a contract I think.

Agreed - bit of a surprise really and a left back who can actually defend - rare commodity for us.

OK, last night was his last game. Do you think TM should keep him until the end of the season? To be honest I thought he made the step up well, he scored a goal and has looked sharper, particularly in the last couple of games. I'd keep him.

If his injury is not too bad then TM should sign him until the end of the season

It isn't down to TM really, it's likely to be down to Steve Waggott more the pity.

I assume this was a Hockaday signing which is why he offers more than the rubbish waggot normally brings in.

He will be cheap wages wise and offers a decent chance of being a league one left back.

Really we've had poor players in that position most of the time. Hussey was woeful and despite the hype, as a defender, Adams was little better. Haynes again flatters to deceive and it's no coincidence that the upturn in form has coincided with his exit from the first team.

If we keep Stokes then it would probably be beneficial for Haynes to go out on Loan to a league 2 or conference side

Well that would be the best option - so no doubt it won't happen.

As mentioned earlier in this thread (Nicks gone on a spree of merging threads I see :D) Id keep him. Be good to see what he can do over the course of a season with better fitness levels.

Agree. And, as Grendel has said, I think he's a better option than Haynes, who'd I'd farm out somewhere. Anywhere.

I think he's done as much as he could've, would certainly like to keep him around as a back-up left-back, however I think in time Haynes will be a better player than him and for now if we have the chance to get someone in with the experience of Ricketts I feel that'd benefit us more in the short term.

Is the German forward still here? If so get rid of him and have both we are top heavy up top so

But we were reliably informed that he was shit before he played. How can this be?
