Agree with the effort part but Stern John was fasr superior in skill and finishing. Stern John is our best striker since relegation from PL in my opinion.

callum wilson pisses all over stern john as far as the best striker we've had since the PL days (possibly an argument for dan sturridge to but that would just be been a dick about it)

Leon Clarke is an abject failure above L1 standard, Stern John had a premier league background and was a decent championship striker. Back in his day when he played for us he would have pissed all over L1 defences.

The problem is the club has signed many players like him in the past.

He would take a large proportion of the wage budget. For that you really need someone like Ricky Lambert (when signed by Southampton) who you know will score goals for fun in the league.

This season we have signed many "names" who have looked disinterested the minute the ink is dry on the contract.

I struggle to be convinced he would not go the same way.

..... anyone else want to moan about him now?

Yes, the guy just on CWR. Reckons it might be a new manager effect.

You're not wrong there mate: a manager who understands that a guy who loves ripping people down the middle is best played near enough in that position, rather on the fooking left wing.

Mowbray is the biggest contract we should be worrying about renewing, but followed swiftly by Noubs. Maybe, just maybe there is the potential for us to do something next year? I know we aren't safe yet but the past 2 wins away at play off chasing teams are extreme encouraging with the last few games against teams now below us (aside from Bristol City)!

I can't remember us having a striker who has every attribute like he has - Cyrille? Leon Best (at a push - but he couldn't dribble like Nouble can). He's a beast, can shoot, can hold the ball up, outpace a man. If TM can get him to apply himself in a system that he's comfortable in (consistently) and continue to get speed around him, then I'm pretty sure we'll have a good goals for column next season.

Leon Clarke last season was twice the player Nouble has been this season. 20 goals plus brilliant link play, we've seriously missed him.

Two in the last two games. Mowbray is playing him down the middle. Same with Fleck, he's a different player since Pressley went.

Aye, a different player-in a different team. One that understands the concept of attacking!!! :D

He doesn't have every attribute. He poor in the air for a big guy, strangely hasn't scored or looked like scoring a head all season. (And no I'm not trying to be a 'hater')

Best couldn't dribble, but was good in the air, quick, had a decent shot on him and was a strong as an ox. I'd say his attributes are more in line with Dele's.

Wait till next season.

Nouble probably has the better attributes.

Agreed, he's very similar to Dele when he was younger. He was quicker then, like Nouble is, but the Dele who played for us had a better first touch (it bounces off Nouble a lot) and was a very intelligent, unselfish, creative player (ask Mifsud!)-I think Nouble still has more to do on that side, although he does give us a real spark of flair and power. Dele was also always pretty crap in the air despite his size. Maybe the difference between them as players is maturity and Dele being a bit of a big softy and not much of an egotist-whereas Franck seems to really love himself!

He reminds me a bit of Baker not in his play style but the way he can frustrate and excite in equal measure , he is inconsistent and his quality can be a bit crap sometimes but he wants to and can make things happen. Would rather him than a player who plays in there comfort zone for 90 minutes.

I'm not saying he's good, Clarke was excellent for us last season, much better than Nouble has been this season, but he was slow and not very good in the air. I'm still not convinced by Nouble but I think he has every attribute you want in a striker, whether he can apply them consistently and in an effective manner is another matter entirely. Dele was much clumsier than Nouble, but I see where you're coming from.

Agreed, Stupot. The only differences I'd say are that Nouble is probably better than Dele was physically - Dele always looked a bit bumbling on the ball whereas Nouble has genuinely good, quick feet when he gets going. That said, Nouble's decision making is atrocious at times, something that Dele was very good at - recognising other people's strengths and knowing when to help exploit them for the team's benefit. Should hopefully come with experience, I guess.

He was good in patches tonight but makes poor decisions at times, he is a serious handful for defenders mind so it's about trying to make him in the right areas.

Seriously think he can be just as good as Clarke if not better. A handful for any team in this division on his day, very good one one on one with a defender and an exciting player to watch. Should be scoring a Ton in this league hopefully with better players around him and with Mowbray at the helm he will....just hope he does enough to help keep us up and not too much so better teams start sniffing around

He does have the quality to make a difference in this league if the manager can get some consistent performances out of him. Thought he played quite well tonight, playing for a new contract maybe? He looked strong on the ball and linked play well in the 2nd half but he is most dangerous through the middle as the opposition tire. Seems Mowbray likes to look for an impact late on in games with chages of positions and subs.
