I had to laugh, the previous land owners had purchased the land directly from Jaguar in the past. Yet it required our council to bring it all together.. Basically a piece for a faction of the labour council to try and get one over another faction. Hold on wait, a councillor even stayed late one night to help the deal go through ooooooh

I wouldn't say the council deserve any credit for this, but likewise they wouldn't deserve any criticism if JLR left.

People on here lately effectively having a go at the council for the 70's collapse of British Leyland were laughable.

Professor David Bailey stated: 'The council has been proactive in making the site as accessible and attractive as possible for JLR, and had invested heavily in local infrastructure to seal the deal. It was a far sighted move by the council, which sees the JLR investment as a ‘game changer’ for the city'

Given JLR already supports 4,000 very, very well paid jobs in the city; and this doubling in infastructure will doubtless mean a whole lot more - this is, as you identify, very good news for the city. Whatever the council's role should be celebrated though. To put a cynical slant on it really isn't measured

If you are feeling nasty and vindictive towards the council. For some having a pop at them will be more important than this fantastic news for our city.

So, the people charged with creating the conditions for business in the city shouldn't take any credit when a business makes a strategic decision to invest in the city?

Are Grendel and Fernando seriously suggesting that even if Coventry was a nuclear wasteland JLR would've invested there because it was a "strategic decision" (what bollocks that phrase is, everything the management do is a strategic decision) and they just love, what? the name of the City? It's location?

At least try and stay in the bounds of possibility guys.

The CT have as usual waded in with wildly exaggerated claims about future jobs. The bright future according to the CT seems to be all about Wasps and JLR, the football team we have is being left behind. Newspapers from Murdochs giants to local tin pot rags all want to back a winner.

That's is the reality of the situation. It seems there is a party going on and the football team is the toddler who threw a tantrum and is now regretting not be allowed to come

Just heard on the radio that London taxis are building a new factory in Coventry for electric taxis with the creation of thousands of jobs. Its a good week for the city of Coventry by the sounds of it where jobs and investment are concerned.

It's a bit crazy really the paper has been completely hi jacked it seems.

You can't just ignore one of the biggest stories in the city for years bizzare

I would have thought if a big story breaks that would go on straight away.

Could it really be as simple as the political journalist did not like the big story of the day yesterday.

Maybe we have to wait and an article will appear picking holes in that particular big story. There does seem to be a theme of attacking the "labour" Council each of the 4 -5 main stories attacking them seem to be titled "labour" council.
Maybe a positive story for the "labour " council is not the in thing

On les reid politics Twitter last up dated lunchtime yesterday. There is no mention either just this

Its got nothing to do with the Council , its privatly owned ,
Jaguar sold the land to a developer when they hit Bad times ,now they want to buy it back.

The Company i work for was going to have a New Facility there, starting building this year but looks like we will be fucked off now. :(

The A45 will be the Highways Agency, its a trunk road.

Whitley bridge is on the London Road isn't it, that is a local road, B4110.
 
As Northern Wisdom alluded to earlier, can we criticise the council for the Peugeot, Browns Lane and Massey Ferguson (to name but 3) closures?

It's quite funny really, at national level you get the Tories taking credit and at a local level Labour.
