Murphy! (2 Viewers)

Nobody will agree because he saved a pen, but he looks a bag of nerves. Doesn't command his area, seems to be indecisive and makes the back four nervous. I dont rate him.

Im still undecided. I never rated him when we were continuously linked with him. Ive not seen anything of him that makes me think he's as good as Thorn has said (he obviously seen something tho as he admired him for so long prior to actually signing him), however I appreciate he is the best we could afford, and is an average championship GK.

Dunn is the potential and would have been interesting to see if he could of saved at least one of the goals at Ipswich.

He is taller and has a better presence by the looks of it.

Then again today... we should have won the game and that is the fault of Juke.

2 point lost and we could have done with the win to put us higher up the table rather than relegation fodder.

I don't have a problem with Murphy.
I rate him as a good keeper.

my opinion - for what it's worth - Murphy is a far better all round keeper than the one that went to wonderland. How you can say he does not command the box is beyond me- he comes out and collects, punches the ball well - I don't recall our ex keeper coming for balls around the penalty spot ( and of course makes penalty saves).

Doesn't command his area? Wow you must be blind

He made two nervy punches today. There were a couple of indecisive moments, should I stay or should I go type moments. I'm far from blind, it's just my opinion. He doesn't inspire me with any confidence, he doesn't seem to have a presence to me.

I still have issues over his handling, primarily from mistakes made earlier in the season (Palace in particular).

I think he's got Westwood beat when it comes to distribution though.

I think Murphy is OK. He is certainly not the biggest issue at the club. There are a lot worse goalkeepers around.

mate most of this is wrong from what i've heard he never comes for crosse's or corners, and westwood does make penelty saves and i dont think he is a better keeper or at least he hasn't shown us yet

I'm not one of those who suddenly thinks a player was always terrible as soon as they leave us, but all I saw of Westwood were the hesitant kicks to nobody in particular and the refusal to throw the ball out.

Talks more than Westwood, better distribution than Westwood and everything else he does as well as Westwood... Even my drunken eyes can see that!

I entirely agree. I don't think he is Championship quality, sorry. Just have a look at who conceded more goals in our division than anyone else last season.

Good Pen save, fair enough, but even the man himself admitted "it was a lucky guess, and I almost went too far-I was worried about letting the ball go past me for a second".
I think he has zero presence whatsoever, does not command his area at all, and has very poor handling. Even his distribution-his greatest asset-was poor today. I would rather see Dunn given a run in the side.

To the people who thinks he is better than or as good as Westwood --->

Westwood used to get us out of jail at least a couple of times a game, to the fella who said he had a refusal to role it out surely that instruction comes from the manager and considering we had Boothroyd in charge it doesn't surprise me the ball wasn't rolled out often.
I can count the number of good saves Murphy has made this season on one hand.

I don't think Murphy is a terrible keeper for this level but he is no Westwood.

I don't think he's a bad keeper, just inconsistent. There was a really shakey moment between him and Cranie who was waiting for Murphy to come and grab the ball whilst he held off the striker. I don't think he comes out enough or commands his box well at all.

Did anyone see dunn in pre season!!
You wouldn't be wanting him in goal if you did!

Agreed, but the Dunn in pre-season was a world away from the Dunn against Derby. In that game, he made a wordlie save and commanded his area much better than Murphy has all season. And we won that game, the only one we have!

I think there has been massive over reaction to Dunn v Derby. Yes he made a good save but it was nothing more than that. Murphy made an equally good save in the first half of that game.

Dunn came with less than favourable reviews from Northants fans so I'd much rather stick with the experienced Murphy for a little while yet.

I think it is about how old youare. If you were fortunate to see Blyth or Oggy then you would say Westwood or Murphy are good championship keepers. If you are young and only know Westwood and the others of his era then I can understand the feeling that he was good for us, and he was. But he has gone and we have Murphy and Dunn. Murphy's strong point is that he is a talker and will help the younger players. Dunn under Oggy will progress and be the best keeper we have had since the big man himself. Also I think a lot depends on who is in front of the keeper. There are some very average keepers playing in good teams, and there are great keepers playing in fron t of awful teams.
Murphy is ours so I back him. Westwood has gone so I really don't care.

SPrry Murphy is the better out of the two IMO, but no where near as good as westy was. We have to accept it like other positions, we just do not have the qaulity we had last season in key roles.

There's a simple reason why people are raving about Dunn and slating Murphy:

Murphy as new first choice is being compared to Westwood.
Dunn as new second choice is being compared to Michael Quirke/Danny Ireland.

More like one has not let any goals in and dealt with everything he had to in bad playing conditions whilst looking as though he had just got out of a boxing ring. The other one has let every goal in we have conceded this season. It leaves us to think which one is the best.

FUCKING USELESS and a liability again, does not command the area, the players dont look comfortable with him in goal, GET HIM OUT
