Depressing stat from Jim Brown -

"Final @Coventry_City average gate (9332) is lowest since club joined FL in 1919 (Sixfields apart). Avge since Ricoh return 9999"

That's not too far behind the season after we got relegated, though the 27k Gills game must bump up the average quite a bit.

Take 20000 off the total and then divide by 23, i can't be arsed and it will give more or less the proper average gate.

All things considered I think the gates have held up well, mainly thanks to the feel good factor bounce on returning to the Ricoh when 4000 people went out and bought ST's in a week. Next season though............people are not going to be fooled ! The potential is tremendous at Coventry but we need owners of some sort who understand the absolute necessity for a successful season and by that I mean just scoring enough goals and playing well enough to finish top 8 !

You mean the top 8 of league two, right?

I still believe we'll scrape up but this will be a pivotal summer for CCFC, either SISU back a manager and 'give it a go' or they will sit back and wait to see what ST cash comes in. If they take the 2nd option then I fear the worst for numbers.

We are a bigger club than Birmingham City. Hard to believe right now, I know.

The Gillingham crowd will just counteract the small Sixfields crowds at the start of the season.

Away followings in the championship are thousands more than in League 1, so Birmingham's averages will have had healthy boosts from Wolves, Leeds, Forest, Derby etc, compared to Crawley,Colchester etc

Let's be fair, our crowds have been poor, but there hasn't really been a 'big game' to draw people in (bar the obvious).

The year we went down we had clubs like West Ham and Leeds bring 5000+. Midlands derby's with Leicester, Forest, Derby and Birmingham.

Bar the Bristol game, the followings at the Ricoh haven't really offered any excitement.
It's a shame really, and would be worse with relegation. I miss the games with a big match feel at home.

I am making the point our gates are a division lower against smaller clubs and our performances have been dower...so 10,000 isn't as bad as some make out

Sixfields season aside, to say we have never had an average league attendance lower than 9k is actually very impressive.

I've just seen that every other Midlands team has had a lower average at some point. Puts into perspective some of the nonsense spouted about how we're the worst, most fickle fans.
