Jimmy's Statue (14 Viewers)

Maybe it's just me, but this doesn't bother me in the slightest, I am not at all offended by it an I just see it as a bit of fun.

Think people need to chill out a bit don't they. I can't see any disrespect in this at all. Just a bit of fun and I'm sure Jimmy wouldn't mind.

I pretty much agree with Otis, we have far bigger things to be worried about than a few Wasps fans draping colours over a statue.

Lets hope nothing happens like the act of disrespect towards the statue of Blackpool legend Stan Mortensen perpetrated by the callous Oyston regime.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ped-shed-Oyston-s-remove-Bloomfield-Road.html

That was just spite from the Blackpool owner, disgraceful. I don't think even SISU would sink that low but who knows, whilst SISU have done terrible, hurtful and at times unforgivable things to the fans it's always been to further there own agenda, I don't think they've ever done anything with the sole purpose of hurting the fans like Oyston with the statue.

Wasps need to do something about this. Fence Sir Jimmy off or put a steward there on Wasps match days or something like that.

Agreed. They have done that to the statue a few times now, so not an isolated incident.

Agree Jas, much more to be concerned about than a little light hearted fun, however I would rather it was a Wasps flag not a Tigers flag.

I think people feel it's not disrespectful to Jimmy, that I believe everyone can see the funny side of. No, it's disrespectful because it is a CCFC thing. It's possibly the only thing that actually represents our club at the Ricoh now so I can understand people's anger mixed with sadness.

footie fans get slated all the time and all we here is how the rugby fans behave and we should be more like them ,well this for me throws all that away ,what a dissrespectfull thing to do ,what a complete and utter knob ,and you would think that that by now this would have been stopped .maybe time to get on to the club and council to get the statue removed and put in the city centre

Also, I think people who support Wasps, the vast majority, don't come from Coventry so don't even know the association with Jimmy and the club. I wonder if Cove Rugby club fans would do that, and before people get irrate with me, I am a Wasps fan.

I don't buy that argument really. If you visit somewhere and there is a statue if you didn't know who it was wouldn't your default behaviour be to treat it with respect?

Would just show the utterly bizarre nature of things if it were true, and fans of a Coventry based sporting team didn't know who Jimmy Hill was!

You mean the adverts on the lamposts?

What was it TM said about the Ricoh about it not being ours? About walking down the tunnel, the changing rooms etc?

The sooner we get away from it the better. Some people seem desperate to stay there in particular, as if putting up a couple of posters makes much difference.

Wasps own it, it is their right to do what they want with it and all of this "we just need to make some effort to work with wasps to get what we want" is bollocks. Time to move on somewhere else.

A memorial garden for CCFC fans with "We are Wasps" in the background, doesn't sit right.
I'd probably agree about moving from there (only to another site in Coventry mind) if I could believe we had owners who genuinely intend to deliver on this, but we ain't and we won't until our owners get the message and fuck off.

Whilst this is the case, it is far better to pursue a policy of cooperative tenancy. The club (CCFC) may well be able to personalise the Ricoh more to our tastes, but I wouldn't think Sisu will ask anyway as it's pointless to their 'moving on' agenda/fantasy.

Would love to have seen the fuckers legs hooked away too.

makes wonder whats going to happen if wasps ever win a trophy ,wher are they going to have their victory parade ? , be interesting to see if they shun Coventry to have it in London ,maybe then people might realise they are only wanted on home matchdays,

I don't disagree.

Would rather see this message around here though, then the let's slit our own throats and ensure any future owners don't have that option if they want it.

Weld ourselves to the same conditions that saw SISU here in the first place and... chances increase that we'll see a version of SISU time and time again.

Agreed. I don't particular want a new stadium, my hope (little chance) is that wasps fall flat on their face and we can buy into the Ricoh at some point, however, I'm not closing myself down to the idea of a new stadium if it ever (little chance) materialised, and definitely not before I have seen a business case for/against. Seems for some it's "Ricoh or nothing".

I think we need to keep all options open (with/without sisu), which means not rushing into signing a long term deal with wasps that we can't get out of at a later date. We should be looking to exploit what we can in the interim whilst the current contract is in place, even if that means working with wasps. But very much keeping all options open.

You mean you don't piss up War Memorials because you didn't know who the soldiers were? Something wrong with you mate.

Must go, Lady Godiva needs to be dry humped.

be interesting if sisu make a statement about it and fight our corner ,be a good pointer to see how much or how little they respect the clubs history , fans and legends

The thing is you and many others I could mention on here, hell 90% of 'em, seem to be wanting rid of our current owners just to go for a SISU Lite option. Pointless really.

Yes, agree with that, stu.

Let's face it, if we were to build a new stadium, with all the local objections, planning and legal stuff etc., it would be 5-6 years in the making anyway. We therefore have to make sure the Ricoh remains our home and do so for however long that takes.

I am hoping we can get a long term beneficial deal at the Ricoh and cross my fingers then that the Wasps folly fails and falls flat on its face and they go back home to London.

tbh it probably is just a bit of fun, nothing sinister about it but its still a little bit degrading/mickey take out of us, I'd imagine there would be uproar if a CCFC fan messed around with anything of Wasps around the Ricoh on our match day.

Wouldve been more fun if he fell off.

However did socialist councillors get into bed with rugger bugger types? You'd think they'd hate the thought of nouveau riche mockneys taking a 'community asset' from the people of Coventry?

Nope, just don't buy the idea that had Sisu got hold of the Ricoh, uniting club & stadia, they would sell it on and all would be hunky dory.

More they would assume the role of ACL, sell the club and charge a rent that would make £1.3m per annum seem like loose change....

I personally think if SISU would have got the Ricoh they would have just used it to get some money on credit for themselves using it as security. They could use some of it to give themselves some money back as well.

That's actually a fine argument for gaining an extra stadium in the city mind, that if any ruthless ground owner did decide to fleece the club, there'd be an alternative to jump to...

(won;t do again the arguments surrounding your post, as otherwise we'll lose the will to live!)

Lots of people used to say it all the time. Nothing like a good bit of unsubstantiated scaremongering to stir up the natives.

where does that idea come from?

This 'sort of' pisses me off. If feels kind of territorial. A sort of 'this place is ours now' kind of thing. Though on the other hand it is just one idiot who's either a bit ignorant and didn't think before doing it, or being deliberately provocative.

Over-riding that though, is sadness. It shows us as an irrelevance. The place was built for us, it's been where we play for 10 years, and now one of the few things there that's actually intrinsic to CCFC has been 'claimed' by someone who doesn't even know who the person is that they're claiming as their own!

As I say though, it's probably just one idiot. As has been referenced in this thread, if I see a statue somewhere, I recognise that it's there because the person depicted is respected in the area. It's probably therefore the decent thing to do to not climb all over it and attach tat to it.

Was at the stadium yesterday pre kick -off very hard to accept, without going down the blame game but don't SISU have the desire or the capability to deliver on a new stadium in the Coventry area. I would like us to get a new ground the Ricoh is not ours anymore. Hoping that WASPS fail is pointless and outside our control. Yesterday was one of the saddest experiences for me as a Cov fan NB didn't go to the game.

Well, unless you have a crystal ball then yes it's scaremongering. Weird how no one mentions the Wasps' bond.

Scaremongering? You'd trust Sisu to deliver?

Maybe that's why you're in the 10%......

Otis

Surely it is scaremongering, unless you know for a fact that is what is going to happen?

Not going to get into an argument here with anyone, but people do keep saying Wasps will change the colour of the seats and that Wasps will screw us over and seem to state it like it's a fact.

I've always more been in the lets wait and see camp myself. If Wasps start to struggle they will need us. I know it's all rosy in the Wasps garden at the moment, but let's see what happens when the novelty factor wears off. Hopefully Cov will have another great season too and draw fans to the BPA, rather than the Ricoh Arnea.

Also worth noticing the number of johnny come lately WASPS fans I suspect the person who covered the Jimmy Statute knew exactly who he was and was coventry area based - its part of the fun locals are getting humiliating this once great club.

Going forward we need to be united as one, club fans players unfortunately I don't think SISU are capable of doing this but my desire to play away from the Ricoh was increased but there are no feasible alternatives. Would rather play at a 15,000 Butts stadium

Why would they need us? The revenue received is paltry.
