Transfer funds (3 Viewers)

I believe TM will have a small transfer fund to buy players, perhaps a striker. Who will we spend it on ?

From what we've heard the budget is going to be similar at best to last year, I would not be expecting any transfer money spent whatsoever. We just have to hope what little money we have is spent wisely.

Yep....pretty much standard for the vast majority of L1 & L2 clubs these days ain't it....

Pretty much. I would guess that if TM is being given free reigns on the playing budgets he could pay a transfer fee but it would impact elsewhere on his playing budget. I would guess most likely wages so would have an impact on squad numbers. Which is fine if no one gets injured or you don't mind having a lack competition for places. It's swings and roundabouts.

We're in a better position this coming season than last where recruiting freebies is concerned. It looks like we're going to have a more attractive manager and we're starting the season at home. I think we'll be higher up the preference list for out of contract players.

Maybe so, but there are some great frees and loans. We've had our share of them in the past.

I would be surprised if he buys any players, it will be free's and loans I would imagine.

I think the difference is Mowbray will be able to pick and attract better quality players from a widespread base. Pressley often was hung up on signing disenfranchised sweaty socks and loaners like Tudguy and Nouble to make up the numbers !

I wouldn't be surprised if Tudgay gets a new deal.

And Pressley was always left with the dregs nobody else wanted, and as you have rightly pointed out, Mowbray should be able to attract better quality players

And don't forget if as said Mowbray is in charge of all football matters that will include out going transfers too so if bigger fish come in for young Maddison for example, he will go at the right time and for the right money i would think.

Me neither. We were a much better team when he was in the squad IMO, maybe not at the start of the season but definately when he came back in towards the end

I wouldn't mine Tudgay back. Depends what else is out there I guess.

Don't think a small one will do tbh. SISU have a chance to make a massive statement by backing him and not expecting him to use freebies or kids. And I don't think Mowbray would accept that either
ffp rules come into play here don't they

Agreed. When he came back in for the Walsall match he was excellent - even with the missed penalty. Then he was dropped again, didn't understand that.

I expect he was one of the bigger earners, so you have to weigh up just what value he was over a season. Personally I'd be looking for someone with a bit more hunger for the game.

So the budget should be 4 times last years which was based on Sixfields.
Off course any tickets bought before end of June increase that figure.
Can Sisu confirm that the full % will be used in the upcoming season so we can all get our season tickets to help out ?

I don't think they need to pay any transfer fees as there are loads of free agents out there like Leon Clarke.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the budget this year - as well publicised by Waggot we had a highish budget for the league and that was based of the previous year's FFP (or SCMP really) from a year at Sixfields. With almost a full season back at the Ricoh and attendances obviously improving, would this now mean we're capable of spending a fair bit more?

He already did. He stated that he would not be asking for more money, only more control.

I agree Samo, the budget will be the same.

I doubt it. They injected equity to make up the shortfall for being at Sixfields unless you think the wage bill was about 400k last season?. The budget will be based on average of 11k fans, and our turnover will be somewhere in the region of £4.5-5m, so 60% of that £2.7-£3m playing budget. So £2.6m last season's was about right and gives them scope to invest in January of attendances are reaching the 11k threshold or above.

Isn't it based around a predicted budget? If so last years budget will be based on being at the Ricoh.

Apparently this years budget requires an average crowd of 11K, that's based on the new lower ticket prices.

Were they expecting to be back at the Ricoh when that predicted budget was set then Dave?

11k sounds very optimistic to me with no extra investment in the squad, before the ticket price cut and the extra optimism from TM we were looking at an average more like 7k imo, now I'm sure it will be better than that now but we need to recruit very well and of course sign mowbury for 11k to be plausible and even then it's probably not without us starting very well.

My understanding was that the budgets were continually revised based on the latest evidence. So for example we couldn't say we're going to get 30K every week and budget based on that.

So they could have budgeted for Northampton and then tweaked it when we returned?

I think that's how it works for everyone but even if it doesn't if they had done a budget based on 2K and then moved back to the Ricoh you would imagine the FL would make one of their famous exceptions to change the rules.

We're told it was a top 8 budget so whatever it was based on we should have done a lot better than we did. TM has said his choice to stay or leave is not based around budget so he must be happy with what is on offer and believe he can give us a successful team with the budget he has.
