Former players (4 Viewers)

Looks like there's going to be a steady stream of former players released, and a steady stream of threads asking whether we should re-sign them.

It set me wondering which players returned to the club and proved to be successes.... :thinking about::thinking about::thinking about::thinking about:

I can't think of any that were as good or better than when released. I imagine that's natural given the kind of club we are: if they play well they are sold. They only return if they haven't been playing well elsewhere for some time.

Was thinking the same.

Changing the thread somewhat I'd welcome back Doyle as he would add some bite to the midfield. It probably won't happen but love Baker to return, offer him the captaincy again and tell him he's wanted.Unsure on Clarke though once a maverick always a maverick ?

The nearest I can think of in reply to the OP is Lee Carsley. Did OK ish when he come back although it was only for a season and he was really old.

Don't know how old you are trench, but the closest to the op would be Mick Ferguson. Came back on a short term deal and kept us up on the last day of the season I think it was Norwich we beat. He scored a typical header at the West end and they hit the bar, he was never every ones cup of tea but his goal in that game kept us in the old first division.

Richard Duffy and Richard Duffy ?

He was better the 2nd time than the 1st time

He was better the 3rd time than the 2nd time

4th time he was woeful in the couple of games he played

I thought his first spell was the best, and got worse with every spell.

TBH, i actually thought his 2nd spell was the best. Wasnt that the one when Micky Adams threw his toys out the pram when he went back saying he wouldnt be playing for the pompy 1st team ?
