28 years ago today.

Sorry for not sending everyone a card, but 6,000 people or so is a bit too rich for me, so .....

How did you know what I was planning on doing to celebrate?

Still the best FA cup final ever IMO. And not just because we won it. Although that obviously helped. I might watch the DVD later.

And that is all it takes, a bit of success. Okay winning the FA Cup is a bit more than a little success, but being at the right end of the division, staying there, playing decent stuff puts bums back on seats, makes this manager decision crucial.

I remember bits of the day; queuing up at Cov Train Station in a big cattle shed, walking past pubs packed with City fans, buying my programme, standing on the steps of the terraces which seemed massive, walking to the train afterwards in a daze, train journey home, getting drunk (an extremely rare occurrence in my life) and smoking for the one and only time: A Grandee. I was sick.

Remember the next day too in Coventry standing outside somewhere near the council house and it was pissing down with rain.

Oh! Happy Days. The world has changed so much. We in Coventry seem to now see this day as being the New Year's Day. I have an idea to dissolve the council in the city and have a mayor. Then we can make this date a national holiday in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Or maybe in Rugby, if we move there.

We were right at the front of the queue in that building having got there for 7.30am (couldn't sleep). Just before the first train was due to leave the line of fans was hundreds of yards long and being at the front we started a Mexican wave. Everybody joined in and the wave snaked its way inside the shed and then out into the streets and eventually, after several minutes, we could see it continue over the bridge outside the station in Warwick Road. Lovely memories of a great day

And surely at the time just like me, you wondered how long it would be before we reached another Cup final at Wembley{ after the Charity Shield of course !?} I had a feeling I wouldn't see the likes of it again and it was all the more special for that uniqueness !

I went to the final. Living in London at the time I bought a ticket simply by walking into a theatre agent outlet and paying £60 cash which was a big mark up at the time. No queuing, in and out in 10 minutes. Never saw any other round except the big one. I was unbelievably fortunate.

I believe my dad went to every round, struggled to get a ticket for the final, and when he did, turned up on the day and was in the spurs end.....
