Strangely seem to remmber half of it was CCC for planning permission and half WCC, but the new terminal was in the WCC bit.

Shouldn't have been a problem anyway as WCC had granted outline permission for a terminal up to 5million people a year I think for years, but somebody on the airport legal side fucked up and allowed it to lapse, hence the locals able to get their objections in.

Surely planning would be Warwick District rather than Warwickshire County?

Why do i want to watch CCFC at Baginton Airport, if they want to get fans on there side move back nearer the city centre where we belong

Good look to Fisher and co if it is the airport site for our new ground. They couldn't get planning permission there for a poxy little terminal so how are they goig to get it for a football stadium and all that goes with it.

One difference between the terminal and a football ground was that the terminal would have been used all day, every day from 6am through to 11pm/12am. The NIMBYs were challenging the ever-present noise issue. Any ground Cov build would only be used once or twice a week for a shortened period of time and at more reasonable times. If it is at the airport, I foresee a lot less protesting from the locals.

I thought we wanted it 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If it's only going to be used twice a week we might as well stay at the Ricoh.

Have you been at that location at 5 O'Clock pm ? and i include Saturdays. There is one road in or out at the moment, unless they let you drive through Baginton village and across the runway, could be a bit dodgy that though. No buses, no walk-up unless you like hitch hiking. No chance of it going there imo.

While personally having no objection to the airport, I thought people were moaning about the accessibility of the Ricoh weren't they?

There is significant roadwork development around there which will mean traffic systems will be fine.

Buses go to and from there now every 15 minutes.

I think he means the single road to get to what will be the improved Tollbar Island not the island itself. He's right too it is a nightmare. The mini roundabout grid locks and the resulting traffic jam goes all the way past the airport and right back into the industrial estate.

I thought they were addressing this weren't they?

I used to work on the industrial estate and it used to be a total nightmare trying to get out of the place.

I work on siskin drive and there will still be only one road in or out when the tollbar island improvements are finished.

Isn't that a bit dumb? Didn't they have the opportunity to sort this out, along with the rest of the roadworks?

It will be sorted. The issues there are primarily down the to fact that all traffic passing through Tollbar has to use the roundabout. The bulk of that traffic (A45-A46) will now go through the underpass meaning that traffic on the island itself will be much lighter.

...and anyway, I think there will be access direct off the A45 and via the flyover that goes towards Ryton.

All the storys about a site till now have been about Rugby or Nuneaton, so it was bound to be the Airport all along, because that is in Warwickshire isn't it?

Really excited about the possible new stadium near Baginton Airport - this is Cov to me (although it might be under RBC's jurisdiction) - I think this would be awesome - and no need to worry about the traffic, the work they are doing on that area and kamikaze island is going to make the traffic flow so much better through that area.

Plus you get some cracking views of Cov from around there (from Baginton), especially of the three spires.

I wouldn't share that much enthusiasm but it's easily the best option of it ever happened.

If there's actually anything in this Baginton Airport is not a problem for me. Would add that to Warwick Uni, Ansty Business Park and Broadstreet as potential sites whose location I would consider near enough in Coventry to make no difference.

Certainly a lot better option than ending up near the NEC or something like that.

The airport land is owned by Coventry City Council, leased by Sir Peter Rigby's group, and planning jurisdiction falls under Warwick District Council.

Having worked with the airport for a number of years, it will be sad to see it go...lots of potential there. But I guess this is another way of Lucas sucking up to Birmingham by removing competition in the form of an airport...but that's another topic.

Will also be a shame about the 400 or so people who rely on the airport for their income, I wonder if a football stadium could offer 400 people a sustainable salary.

From a purely selfish point of view the airport site would work great for me, i've got a bolthole at Princethorpe so a doddle to get to Bagington. Still don't think it will happen but it is a lot better suggestion than any of the other sites mentioned.

Much, much further away for me, but I have always said if a new stadium were ever to be built, as long as it was in Coventry, or very close to Coventry I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Will irk me though if Wasps are playing in a stadium that is much, much nearer to me and in Coventry, while Coventry City would be playing in a stadium that is outside Coventry.

That's a ridiculous notion when you think about it.
