You are whiter than white in that regard are you Nick? Shall I have look back through some threads?
I think the thread was about concern for the lad, I just thought it seemed inappropriate to put the boot in. Can you not see that?
Where have I said I'm whiter than white? If I'm sat there discussing something quite private about somebody on a public forum and then moan about something jovial like somebody saying they smell then feel free.

There's probably a thread where I'm discussing somebody's sexuality when they haven't come out yet and moaned because somebody said they had shit hair.

That would be true if it was what he meant. But we all know that it wasn't. What you should have said is they are all out of order. Now it looks like you are defending Grendel again.

Yes it does begin to appear that if Grendel claimed black was white Nick would find a way to back up the argument. I thought he had more about him tbh.

What??? Anyway, if you can't see the simple point I was making I'll discuss it no further. Sorry for questioning your Homey.

I'm not backing up who said it, just what was said. Whereas some have taken issue just because of the poster, it's ok to start rumors of him being hiv though.

Just off to start a thread saying a player is gay and start a rumor about something private and personal but dont mention that penalty miss, might hurt his feelings.

Perhaps you shouldn't be running a site with 'Rumours and Gossip' in the title if you feel so strongly about it Nick. But I didn't start a rumour, someone asked a question and I simply suggested one possible answer that might fit the circumstances.

All missing the point. This should be in the "players that were here briefly that are poorly" section

I think that the key thing here is context.

If we had a thread about old players and someone posted that they thought Ernie Hannigan was crap, many may disagree but I doubt that they'd consider it a particularly ill judged comment.

However when we had the thread about Ernie having passed away, if the same post was inserted there, I think that many people would consider it to be in very poor taste.

Same post, different context, different impact.

I'm not the one saying somebody is rubbish at football is out of order am I? Unless I really am missing a hidden meaning?

I agree, but it would also have to include people speculating how he died too surely without knowing to be the same?

Only in the context of the thread. For Christ's sake!

It does seem that Grendels intent was to stick the boot in and was an inconsiderate comment.

I think Nick has a point as well though, your talking about something factual though whereas this thread is speculation. If people started speculating on that thread that he had committed suicide with no evidence other than he had died I guess people could consider that inconsiderate as well.

Not really, it's like people trying to guess if it was suicide or murder in a death thread, then being offended if people say "their music was shit".

If you honestly think that Grendel's remark was in good taste and not ill-timed you are of course entitled to your opinion. Is that really what you think Nick? If so I would suggest a college course on social skills.

I'll save you the notes about outting people and starting rumours about people online.

I don't think suggesting people are hiv without really knowing, the same as if they are gay etc isn't the best taste is it?

Bill down the road has been arrested, he hasn't said what for, must be a sex offender or armed robber or something. Don't say he is fat though, it's out of order.

And as I said earlier he should be saying that the AIDS comments and Grendel comments are out of order and not defending Grendel by saying he has a right to say if a player is shit. He mentions an ex player that recently died. For all we know Bigi could have a life threatening illness. But because someone said he would be worth 20m it is OK to have a go at him.

I am glad you never mention double standards Nick.

But I'm not the moderator Nick, you are. Surely when you saw that someone had started a thread about Bigi's health that you find soooo offensive you should have closed it down?
So... answer the question: Do you or do you not think that G's remark was in good taste and well timed?

I haven't said either are right or wrong. I'm saying why are people outraged about one while saying the other?

Where have I said he has a right?

If you are saying both are wrong then I'm sure you see my point, which would be the same if grendel then comes on being outraged about the hiv comments after his.

You had a go at those mentioning AIDS but defended Grendel saying he has the right to say if someone is shit. He isn't shit. Just not to prem standard or worth 20m like someone once said.

At the end of the day if he is HIV+ no one has mocked him for it, just the opposite in fact. Everyone has posted in a concerned and supportive manner. Well almost everyone. Someone couldn't help but unnecessarily put the boot in and mock his footballing ability which after all are good enough to earn him a wage.

I assume it was meant to be funny as it clearly wasn't clever. Timing is everything in comedy so it failed on that level too as it was immensely ill timed considering it seriousness of what's being discussed.

The newspaper article leaves it open to speculation and the player chooses not to say what his illness is; he is entitled to do that but it will not stop people speculating.

I think the posts around what his illness might be still had sympathy for his situation and how this might have run his career aground; however wide of the mark they might be. The speculation still respected this was a player who had done well at Coventry and started well at Newcastle.

His lack of recent progress is down to an illness.....Grendel came in at that point and declared the illness was not the reason just that he was a shit player. That not only be littles his medical circumstances but be littles his ability. It goes beyond personal opinion and appeared a blatant lets kick someone when they are down.

Nobody has suggested HIV is anything other than an illness which can be contracted in a number of ways but could have a devastating effect on performance and might be regulated by governing bodies. No post I have seen has tried to stigmatise the player or the illness. But at least there was empathy towards the players plight whatever his condition might be.

Didn't you say you disapproved of Bigi's health being speculated upon? But then that can't be the case can it because you did not delete the thread. A thread not only speculating about his health but making the point that whatever the health problem is it means he is not allowed to play a team sport in Scotland. (the implication is obvious from the outset) But as I say, you did not delete it so you must have deemed it acceptable and it has your, at least tacit, approval.
But then when G but the boot in you leap to his defence by having a pop at me for stating the bloody obvious on a thread YOU should have deleted if you disagreed with its theme.
So, one last time; do you or do you not think that G's remark was in good taste and well timed?

My point is that he obviously didn't say for reason. I haven't said either is right or wrong, just that people go on about compassion while speculating about what's wrong when he has chosen not to publicly say what's wrong.

It could well be that and I hope he is ok, it's the same as any speculation isn't it? It could be bang on but it could also be wide of the mark, which if so could be just as offensive.

I am not offended by any of them, it's just the point about compassion. It's like the example of somebody dying or being arrested without knowing how or what for. The speculation could be just as hurtful as somebody saying they aren't very good at their job.

I have no idea what it is wrong with him, whatever it is would have surely been tested on his medical for Newcastle if it affects his health so badly and could prevent him from legally playing.

My point is lets not all act like angels while gossiping about something which could be quite damaging and hurtful if wrong.

So who was gossiping about AIDS that was offended by the idiots remark? I for one never mentioned AIDS and wasn't exactly offended by Grendels remark. I said it was out of order and you have defended it since. He frequently has a go at ex players. But this time he went too far. Nothing unusual there either. If you hadn't defended it we would be on about something else by now.

No, I disagree with faux outrage. Edit, outrage is the wrong word.

Imagine if said player was Kevin Kyle.
