Top 6 is what we should be aiming for. So 7/2 to me is good. Especially when you consider that Chesterfield, Shrewsbury, Barnsley, Donny, Burton, Rochdale and Oldham are shorter odds than ourselves. TM managed to get us to top 10 form with the dregs he was left with. It is a poor division. My problem is that I don't like a season long bet at short odds. It would be a steal if we start well, but if we have a slow start the odds will go up.

I think we've finished top 6 once in my lifetime....87 or 88 if I recall correctly. I guess we've got to finish top 6 again sometime.

You have to go further back than that SWM! 1970! 45 bleedin' years ago! Oh, how I've suffered! :(

Is that how long ago it was?! F*ck me! I was sure that the table printed on the inside of one of my late 80's season compilations showed us 6th one season. Wow...so then, we've never finished Top 6 in my 35 years on this wonderful place we call earth. Unbelievable.

We've got to do it some time. I'm still not 100% assured like many that TM is the messiah like many feel (and no, I don't know who else would be) but I think a lot depends on TMs transfer policy. SPs was notoriously poor...hopefully TM has more success and the players coming in are worth their salt.

I think I'm still scarred from the Crewe game...

Are you a bookie? You seem to have inside information...

That's just common sense...no inside information needed. You start well, your odds shorten so whatever you took looks good...you start badly, your odds drift. That's how betting and odds work Mr T.

Sorry, Skyblueweeman - was being sarcastic. Also, thought about writing "No shit, Sherlock". :)

9/1 to be promoted
25/1 to win the league

Both need to be backed if you have a dabble at 7/2 for top 6 finish.

Best to wait to see who we bring in first before making an investment.

7/2 for top 6 is abysmal odds considering we've not finished in those places for 50 odd years.

Yeah have the longest odds Crewe 20/1 followed by Colchester 11/1, the poor vale 7/1 on sky best. Not enticing at all 7/2.

How often have we been in league one surrounded by mediocre clubs? There are no where near 6 clubs bigger than us in this league and there are no way six clubs with better managers than us. Will there be six bigger budgets than city?

Agree with all except the budget. Last season we were told that we had a top 10 budget. If it was top 6 they would have said so. But saying that we don't know what TM was after in the negotiations although he did say he wasn't after any more money. But saying that we should sell many more ST's this season. Each extra 1.000 adult ST's sold is an extra £249,000 in income. Last season we started in the wrong location. The move back sold more ST's but not as many as if we had started the season in Coventry. I know of supporters that are buying ST's that have not bought one for a few years. And looking on here there are many more. If we manage an extra 4,000 sold that is an extra 1m income. Give TM 600k of this and it would make a massive difference. If he then manages to put a winning side together many more will come back. And they won't be at the early bird prices.

So yes we could end up with a top 6 budget with about the best manager in this division. There is no reason why we can't get at least in the top 6. And past history has nothing to do with it. I would say it is 48 years since we were in the top 6. Without checking I am sure we went up in 67. We spent most of these years in top flight. And since then we have been in freefall after Richardson got us into major debt and left us without our own ground.

The odds given are from how teams did last season. We finished 17th. But they have not taken into account how well we did with TM in place with a squad that was going down. He will have his own squad and the players he needs for the way he wants to play. This is why I see 7/2 to finish in the top 6 as a good price. They are my reasons for saying we should at least be aiming for the top 6. A slightly better argument than just saying we won't do it because we haven't managed it for 48 years. We have clubs like Shrewsbury and Chesterfield on only 13/8. For those unsure of odds that is a profit of £3.25 for a £2 bet. We are a profit of £7 for a £2 bet. I know where my money will be.

Optimistic? Yes. Too optimistic? Not at all. I am sure that Tony Mowbrays sky blue army is going to have fun next season. The most fun we have had since the late 80's.

Correct me if I'm wrong (please!) But I thought FFP was based on last year's income? So ST sales for this year will only affect us next year??

I believe the way the system in use in L1 works is that you submit a budget for the forthcoming season. The FL then check at certain points (not sure how many) to make sure you are close to that budget so you can't say we'll have £10m in revenues this season and spend on that basis when you're only likely to have £1m.

Just got 16/1 on every City game in League 1 to have over 0.5 goals - so no 0-0s. Think that's a great price myself

I think you can write off that 'investment'.
Last term we drew 0-0 6 times. There will be the odd match where one of the teams have 20+ attempts on goal, but somehow the ball won't go in.

It happened in the 2012/13 season, but then our strike force was on fire at least half the season.

I just read Swindon 'released 10 players in the summer, sold another two and saw six loanees return to their parent clubs' and are still somehow 5/4 for a top 6 finish!!
