Bury splashing the cash (2 Viewers)

I see the likes of Bury are going for it, signing Leon and Tom Pope, I can't see them struggling in League 1.

The promoted teams all finished above us last year, and until we match their ambition (at the very least), we aren't getting out of this sh1thole of a division in a hurry.

Well about time you faced the fact we haven't got cash to splash. I am not convinced Pope will be a success after his injury and I think Clarke is past his best. Clarke depends on teams doing well, he won't dig you out of a hole.

I agree. A strike force of Leon Clarke and Tom pope. Well proven strong goal scorers in this league. They won't have come cheap.

Fair play to them. That's a strike force capable of play offs no doubt.

Yeah i'd have definitely liked to have seen the both of them in sky blue next year, both of em know this league well and are both proven goalscorers at this level, on good contracts too by the looks of it.

Not sure on Pope. Eight league goals last year and twelve the year before. Looking at league games played over the last 2 seasons he's averaging about 1 in 4. With Pope still think you need a 20+ striker with him.

I would take Clarke and Pope in a flash mate you must be mad

I am not mad, just realistic about our finances. I might be proved wrong but I don't think they will deliver value for money next year. Just an opinion.

I'd rather have Samuel back over Clarke or Pope but cant see Reading letting him go out on loan next season

It would have blown most of our budget signing this pair Pope was on high wages at Vale and Clarke won't be cheap either.

We had Wilson and Clarke and still struggled, albeit with a points reduction.

Bury have had financial problems in the past, I daresay they'll have them again in future.

Clarke will hit 20 next season. I will be surprised if we have a player who gets more than Leon.

I will have a wager with anyone on here that Clarke wont score more than 15 all season

He scored 11 in 15 for Scunny before signing for us. Then he scored for us before he went higher. How much would you like to bet?

Bury came 3rd in the 4th division. They will need more than just 2 players. We had a good midfield with Clarke and Wilson. Our defence let us down. So yes they will score goals but unless they improve the rest of their squad they will be in the bottom half. And how much money will they have left to do this?

I think people forget how good Leon Clarke was, in fact part of that is down to most people not seeing him at Sixfields.

I personally thought his finishing and link up play was a lot better than Wilson's. The amount of times he laid goals on a plate for him was impressive.

Bury have had some investment and have not stopped yet in the market.

Also got some handy players who were a cut above league two last season and will step up.

Didn't they do a bond last season based around car park space? Seemed the strangest thing I'd ever seen.

Yep here it is

Or he might score ten in the first fifteen or twenty games, then get his arse in his hand like he did with us, when a bigger club came calling.
He will then pick up a mystery injury until he forces his move, and will then score one or two more goals whilst picking up higher wages playing as a sub or in the stiffs for the rest of the season.

He will then move on for the start of next season to his fiftieth club etc etc

That's it isn't it. Given his record in the league it seems very few clubs wanted him. The fact he is at Bury says more about Clarke than Bury.

He seems damaged goods wandering from club to club and never lasting a full season anywhere.

It's a high risk signing - there will be few pay days left for Clarke to move on to now.

He is a high risk signing but he has an excellent record in this league when he plays regularly.

Peter Clarke should help them with that

Since leaving Coventry Leon Clark has scored 4 goals in 39 appearances. 13 appearances were at League 1 level with a team that won promotion.

on his current wages I wouldn't have him back.

The owners of Bury are or should I say was all season ticket holders for many years. They own local business's and want Bury to go as far as FFP will allow. I can see Bury being up there , as for us and our owners that could be a different story !!!

Will they be able to meet the 9% terms of the bond they created to raise £3 million last year?

It depends if you measure ambition by risking it on two journeyman on high wages on long term contracts.....one of which is proven to be a very disruptive dressing room
influence who has no loyalty when a better deal arises and refuses to play for club he is contracted to.

I did say Bury may be dark horses,,,,,but they are playing a high risk game.....Leon Clarke did well for us but not since, has had a few injuries since and is not
getting any younger.....Pope on a lot of money and ok at best.,

I am not too bothered on "missing" out on either think TM will spend the money more wisely.....a long pre-season to go yet keep the faith!
