Sisu to buy Northampton ??? (1 Viewer)

They are both fighting their corner the best way they can.
ACL and perhaps later the stadium freehold was up for grabs.
Sisu used our club as the stake and would have won eventually being the only possible users of the stadium.
If you look at it as a CCFC fan you might think that's tough on the council but CCC are answerable to the ratepayers and once Wasps came in it was a foregone conclusion.
Any other owners than Sisu and the council may have waited.

Doesn't quite answer the question though does it?

Nick and Italiahorse, you are both as bad as each other. No deal was done so your theories around valuation and offers are worthless; yes you have your own opinions, but you have expressed them on countless threads.

Move on.

I'm not pushing a theory. I am asking a question about something banded about in the thread.

Clearly they did have to sell. The real question and the one some posters keep ignoring is why weren't SISU buying?

I don't think anyone is ignoring this point and I fully agree with it.

A lot of this backlash could have been avoided if the council would have come out and say publicly to SISU - this is what Wasps are prepared to pay for ACL and a longer lease on the stadium.. do you want it or not? SISU's bluff is called and one way or the other the council gets the money they need.

Which after all is the primary reason for the sale.

They had already said that they were not willing to take on the loan. IIRC Fisher even said it after Wasps took it over.

I think we all know that wasn't going to happen because wasps had the business acumen to put a confidentiality clause in place to protect their negotiated offer.

Which brings you straight to question. Why didn't SISU have the business acumen to negotiate with the council?

I just don't get this "the council should have done" argument. Are people really suggesting that SISU don't know how to do a business deal and need some other party to negotiate first? Who negotiated the deal for CCFC? Presumably it wasn't SISU because they don't know how to do such things, all they can do is hide around the corner until some other party negotiates a deal only for SISU to then jump in front of them and steal the deal from underneath their feet. Maybe this is the hold up on the new ground? They're waiting for another sports team to negotiate on a new stadium in the Coventry area so they can jump in front of them at the eleventh hour and steal their thunder.

Some people on here are incapable of accepting that the reason we've lost the Ricoh has more to do with what SISU did and didn't do rather than what Wasps/CCC did do.

How long of a opportunity did SISU have to do what Wasps did?

Really? Do you have any evidence?

I don't have a copy of the contact to hand, no. It's almost as if it's been tied up in some sort of confidentiality agreement.

Why, do you have any evidence that there wasn't?

I don't. However. You seem to suggest its wasps who wanted confidentiality - surely the council could have issued the demand couldn't they?

You don't know much about cov do you it wouldn't have made any difference if thousands more had supported the club they would have still been where they are now.

I know plenty thanks obviously more than you can comprehend, and I disagree, it could have made a difference to the Rugby club.

Sisu are an appalling business who have screwed up just about everything they have touched, taking us to the lowest point in 50'years.

Those who choose to never hold them to account for their record, who divert, point at anyone else but Sisu and criticise fans who do hold them to account are a disgrace to our club and history.

I think that is more likely. Not unusual for deals of this type though is it?

Not sure there is anyone doing that though is there?

That's answering a question with a question. What would wasps have to gain?

I thought you were the international business man on a six figure salary.

I've already stated what wasps gain. They protect the deal that they have negotiated. It really is that simple. Worked to.

So tell me. What did the council gain if it was them who instigated a confidentiality agreement in the deal?

The fact that the public were banned from the council house when this was discussed shows that it's most likely the council wanted the deal kept secret.

Or they'd signed a confidentiality agreement with wasps as part of the negotiation process meaning they had to keep the details of the negotiation secret.

Shame that they didn't offer us - that's the football club from the city regardless of owners - the same length of lease they gave the out of towners.

Obvious that you don't,if you did then you would know why Cov are in the position they are in just don't ask me to explain any further because I don't have a team of lawyers to help me out.

Protect the deal? What is that in reality? The deal was never under threat was it so what was the need to protect?

The council had a lot to gain from secrecy - political expediency, face saving after numerous comments regarding the ACL finances, a lack of business credibility exposed for public viewing - the list can go on.

However, I have not made a claim that the confidentiality was drawn up by the council. You said Wasps did this which shows business acumen. So who believes who benefits is not that relevant. All I ask is you to prove the claim it was at their instigation - which you insist it was.

If you could prove that SISU rejected the same deal on the same terms that Wasps got then I'm 100% with you. But they weren't. This is where IMO a lot of people take issue with the council's actions.

SISU failings were clear to see, and the council had an opportunity to call their bluff once and for all...which you could argue would have been for the benefit of the club and/or the city... as either SISU buy - council get money - club get a home, or Wasps buy - council get money.

You could argue it wasn't their responsibility to do so, but they felt the need to discuss the moral responsibility of the owners actions in 'ripping a club from the heart of it's community' - which they conveniently ignored later down the line.

In reality the council were so trapped by the bullshit of their own making (or bluff as Italia calls it) that a secret deal was the only way to circumvent having to answer for the inaccuracies and false statements, as well as getting a shit load LESS money for the people of Coventry than they would have done otherwise.

Political expediency? What the hell is that supposed to mean and how would a confidentiality agreement effect it?

Face saving after numerous claims about ACL finance's? This was always going to come out as soon as ACL's accounts are publicly available so a confidentiality agreement didn't change jack shit on that score.

For someone who's claiming to have not claimed that the council wanted the commercial confidentiality agreement you're certainly clutching at straws to as why they did.

Commercial confidentiality is commonplace in business and it's done to protect the deal not thing's from outside the deal. The things you are suggesting are simply not connected to the deal and if out in the open wouldn't have effected the deal and stopped it completing. Someone else knowing the details of the deal you've just spent alot of time and money on to negotiate does and gives another interested party the intelligence they need to make an improved counter offer. Why wouldn't Wasps have insisted on a confidentiality agreement from the very start of serious negotiations? I would say it would have been commercial suicide to not have one. I think that's called business acumen. I also think you know this but you're too proud to admit that you've got this wrong so you just keep digging instead.

Keep digging? Tony its you that has stated on this forum that it was wasps who insisted on commercial confidentiality. I actually believe you are the only poster on this forum that assumed it was wasps that insisted on the clause.

All i am asking is if you have the evidence to support this.

Please answer - yes or no?

We could merge, find a compromise on colours...nothing too dark as we are light, maybe a lighter shade of red, or how about pink?

Rename ourselves Coventry Ham. Woo.

Could this be a way out for them ?

Or .................................... ?

Cannot see SISU going anywhere near another football club.
Didn't JS more or less say. If she knew then what she knows now, SISU would probably never invested in us.
Football and SISU do not fit together.
Best chance for them is to hope TM wings promotion, and they can sell us as a Championship Club.

Your hard work because you are a blinkered and arrogant, because no one is a knowledgable as you are they.

Do you want a seperate post where we go through and digest each regime. I know plenty about them, have been to watch them plenty times myself, and know several people with close connections to the club, but hey ho I am not a gold star super fan of Cov Rugby Club like you.

You know so much but say f*ck all in the presumption that no one knows more about Cov Rugby than you.

Basically the reason we are in the position we are in.

It wasn't the fact that you didn't agree, it was the way you spouted I didn't know anything because my opinion isn't the same as yours. Which is pretty small minded. I know plenty about Coventry Rugby as you also seem to.

Perhaps if you respected others views they wouldn't have to be 'arrogant' back. I am sorry if you think that is the case about me. I felt I needed to be honest about facts seeing as you didn't give me the courtesy of expressing my opinion, which is just as valid as yours, and as you just basically told me I didn't know anything, which isn't the case...we just disagree.

I am sure you would be the first one to point out I was wrong or arrogant if I actually said it was you who didn't have a clue of what really went on as you just respond to terrace talk. That though isn't my opinion, as I just accept we disagree.

I was just surprised at the tone of your post, as you are normally someone who is pretty decent if we disagree.

Sorry if you thought that,it wasn't meant in that way. Quite frankly that's one of the reasons I don't come on here much now our situation and the situation at Cov has made me angry about what has happened to two great clubs more importantly why it has happened. This is why I would much rather debate in person than on here
