Would you want CCFC to be the next Chelsea/Man City? (4 Viewers)

Thought I'd ask this question. Would you ever want CCFC to be bought out and become a English and European powerhouse but at the same time lose all atmosphere, have no or little English players in the squad, have fans coming from abroad pricing out casual fans (like what they're protesting about at Liverpool at the moment) and having people infront of you with selfie sticks and cameras out all game taking pictures?

I spoke to a Man City fan the other day and he said he won't be going to games anymore under the current regime - it just doesn't feel like my club anymore he said, I preferred when we were shit.

So what's your take on this? Obviously it'd be great seeing CCFC in Europe again and competing with the best but I can understand how it can alienate fans.

To be fair, this hasn't felt like the same club it was for years either. For different reasons, obviously. I'd rather be competing with west brom or Sunderland etc, but ANY sort of success I'd probably, currently welcome.

Success in any form would be better than the 45 year slump we've been in. Being the only English club that hasn't finished in the top 6 of any division in that time is an absolute joke,

If that means plastic fans, foreigners in the squad etc. so be it. Just remember, regardless of the new wave of supporter it would bring, were the ones following the club through thick and thin, week in week out.

Manchester City had years of living in the shadow of Man. United, being ridiculed, been down as far as division three not that long not that long ago so why begrudge them their moment. Would i like the same for us ? Well watching YaYa Toure, Sergio Aguero, and whatever other super star may join them or with respect the likes of a Tudgay, Martin, O'Brien and they are our better players there's no contest really is there.

I think when the Arabian owners of Man City have had enough, the team will revert back to a British multi millionaire owner that won't have the same financial clout of Etihad and become a mid table Premiership/upper Championship club. Chelsea however are a different kettle of fish. When Abramovic has had enough, the football club will have to pay back every penny that he has paid out on players, the village etc. He has "Loaned" Chelsea FC. the money, and there is no way any future owners(Unless multi Billionaires) will be able to pay him back. Very much like the SISU at CCFC situation. It doesn't matter how much they say they are owed, after the JR in a few days when they lose again, if nobody wants to pay what Sepalla wants for the club they won't put us into administration, it will be Liquidation. IMHO of course. They won't give TM a transfer kitty of £2m but will throw it at 7/8 lawyers...£300k+ at Appleton without batting an eyelid. So! in answer to the OP....No thanks to a multi Billionaire that only wants us as a plaything till he gets bored. I'll go for a owner that doesn't mind losing a few millions, but will put the Football Club first and back them financially where it matters....On the pitch.

The reality - anyone who wants to buy this club needs their head testing unless they have billions and dont mind taking a loss.

The Dream - I would love to be playing in the championship, Champions League, winning cups etc. Not sure why this would 'take from the atmosphere' (what fecking atmosphere), it would be great to be the biggest club in the midlands so in response to the original question....yes without a fucking doubt.

Yes and no. I would love it to get back to the premier league. I would love it to see us in Europe again. I would love watching quality football and players with quality and flair. It would have to lay solid foundations in the club. But if it was short lived we would soon be back to where we are today; poor players, few fans, no home and a joke to many other clubs.
We want something that can give pride back to the club, the city and us Long suffering fans. A new Jimmy Hill...razzmatazz, excitement, enthusiasm and a belief that anything is possible

I think you might be in for a massive shock when that day occurs mate Don't you listen to the likes of Torchy and Grenduffy? "There's nobody out there to take over CCFC" What makes you think the same doesn't apply to Chelsea? Football Clubs are worth what a buyer thinks they are worth mate, and when Abramovic wants his (Approx £800m) lets see who steps forward with the "Folding stuff"

There's plenty of Chelsea and Man City fans who hate what their clubs are now, they much preferred it when they were shit and not priced out of games by day trippers. It may be easy to say yes give us all this money and great players but as shown by these City and Chelsea fans the grass ain't as green as you'd like to think.

Really good post STP. Having been to lots of CL games over the years it's great knowing that you will be seeing the likes of Messi, Ibrahimovic, etc. and as others have said, as Cov fans we have been starved of any form of success since '87. Especially in the league.

While it would be great to see world class players (for or against us) and to potentially own the stadium (or maybe the foreign billionaire would bit it and lend it to us!) I doubt it would be sustainable.

If the likes of AC Milan are struggling with a global brand and one of Europe's richest men behind them I dread to think how we would end up.

Being a solid well run club would be more desirable, like other have suggested.

My dream would be for Coventry to be a club, partly owned by the fans that has a big membership to draw upon, where ideas of the fans are taken on board and everything is geared towards the fans. Moreover, with an air of tolerance, equality and community. It would be too much to dream of being like St Pauli, a team who is struggling on the field but has a huge waiting list for season tickets, plays sold out games, has one.of the largest fan bases in Germany, has standing areas and promotes gender and sexuality tolerance. I was lucky enough to catch a preseason game a few years ago and the atmosphere was amazing. No sign of trouble. They have a rainbow flag flying next to the club one. I'd rather this than being a corporate machine.

If some oil baron has millions to spend lifting our club out of the doldrums take it and enjoy it. 100m invested in the club is probably a couple of months interest for the likes of the people you are talking about.

I held a dinner at my pub with David Conn from the guardian who is a big Man City fan not too long ago. Really interesting guy who's very passionate on the subject of club ownership. He feels disenfranchised by the current setup and would prefer to go back to not having the investment as there's little for the average fan to identify with. He hopes that the future of clubs is to have at least some fan ownership to get them more back to proper 'clubs' which they were before they all became businesses. Realistically though this is only likely to happen in the lower reaches of the league for the time being. Personally speaking I don't know if I could handle us actually being that good!

I would prefer the Southampton route to the Chelsea/Man City regimes. Get the club on a good foundation then build from there. Even a regular top 6 Prem team would be enough for me, and challenging in the FA Cup.

You do know that Southampton were bought by a billionaire when they were looking down the barrel in League One and spent (relatively) big? They won promotion and the JPT the first season these new guys were in charge.

They're rise is due to exactly the same reasons as Man City/Chelsea. The only difference is that Southampton at the same time were producing a string of good British players which also helped their finances (Bale, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Lallana etc) but the rise was initially based on money from a billionaire.

I don't consider Southampton the same as Chelsea / Man city purely down to what you've written: their academy.

I'd like to see CCFC bring through quality players and keep them for at least a few seasons to support the first team, then look at selling them on maybe.

I know Southampton had a billionaire owner. But didn't he only gift them 30 million initially? Which was wiped off when he died?

Chelsea / man city have each spent 100s of millions, and bought success overnight, Southampton took practically the same squad from league 1 to the premier league.

I dunno. I'd be concerned the way they're set up.

On the other hand... before he rocked up they were on the verge of going bust anyway, and they've had a sustained period of winning major trophies and challenging.

If it ends up just a stay of execution, it's not a bad one!
