...Or the law of averages?
Surely we are due a break. They say things average out over a season... what about over 10 seasons? It's time the footy gods smiled upon us, we must surely be due a decent season?
Anyone superstitious?

No. But very suspicious.

Luck tends be a couple of incidents though doesn't it? The lack of any success for a good 15 years can't be down to luck. Law of averages says if you don't spend money and live off cast offs and kids you won't do well

Not sure if I believe in luck or not.

Obviously the laws of probability are a mathematical fact.

Never really been superstitious either, in fact my family used to piss me off when they said you can't have your pram in the house before the babies born as its bad luck.

That being said, some people do have a run of bad shit happen to them, whilst one of my friends always seems to get the breaks, in fact if he fell in a canal he'd come out dry.

You can have a lucky season (Blackpool getting into top flight, Yeovil into Championship) but the long term trend will give a better indicator as to the true nature of a club.

Yes I agree, but there are many clubs who've had good spells, even promotions, on small budgets and against the odds. I'd quite like it to be our turn.

Interesting thread. I think everyone has luck but some fail to see it. I think what is more, or less, prominent is positivity / negativity, and when there is negativity with the majority it's very hard to overcome it. With the City there really is alot of negativity. When we came home to the Ricoh 26,000 fans were happy but the next few games the crowd dwindled and so many people were uttering 'same old, same old'.
If I may ask a follow on question regarding the thread's title plus what I just said.

Is it possible for a whole football club to feel negative? Or like Saints, Norwich and a few others the clubs have an air of positivity

Yes & no.

You have 20 shots more chance of one heading wide but deflecting off someone & going in than 1 shot on target.

But if we averaged 25k and appealed for 10 penalty decisions I would bet my last £10 that we would get more given than averaging 8k appealing for the same 10 penalties.

You make your own luck the more successful you are the more you get over the course of say a season.

As I have said before, the feel good factor comes down from the top. It is about an attitude of doing things right. That doesn't necessarily mean splashing loads of cash, but it is about honesty, integrity and ambition and above all respecting your customer base.

in fairness, there are small signs things are changing. People need to give Mowberry time though, it is no good spitting the dummy out come Christmas.

Ah yes but I don't think a good spell can be lucky. Though boy do I agree it's time for one

I think there's two types of luck myself. The luck you make yourself and the luck that just turn's up unexpectedly (the lucky bounce of a ball, getting the 50/50 decisions etc).

The change's that have happened so far preseason should bring the luck you make yourself, so if a bit of the unexpected luck turns up as well we hopefully are in for a good season.

Fingers crossed we won't need any luck ;)

I prefer the notion of luck to fate. Fate's a load of bollocks.

Some would argue we are the luckiest club in the country.
