It sounds like to me while the group is small he is really getting to do a real good evaluation on individuals in the squad,, with this any brought in he will see quickly if they are better than what he has already.. Smart to be honest because so many players are still looking for clubs as free agents,,that he can then pick the best players in positions he needs.

I would assume another RB, RM and 2 FW if we can afford them... Interested to see how Harries, the twins, Stevenson and Lawton get on, would like to see at least 2 step up and play a good few games, next season...

There are so many out of contract players that this is the way footy is these days. Every club releases a load of players at the end of the season and a new load come in on freebies.

Plenty of fish in the sea but picking the pearls is the key.

The longer they are out of work the less their demands will be and when the season starts there will still be loads available and I would imagine most that we released will still be available unless they all have Barton's agent

I Don't understand everyone obsession with a new RB. We have Phillips & Willis with the twins and Rickets who can also play there. The money needs to be spent on 2 solid CM 2 quick wingers and 3 new strikers first.

Phillips had a bad couple of games but I think he is a far better bet than Haynes at left back

He is a young lad that is learning his trade - IMO if he can stay injury free this is his year and will be the dark horse

He is quick, powerful, scores the odd goal and put a hell of a tackle in on players

Money is better spent else where

I totally agree. I think its time for Phillips to grab the spot, and make it his own. He has been slowly integrated into the squad and they clearly see him moving into a regular place so next season could be his chance.

He also has an eye for goal, which from a defender is a good thing as we need to speard the goals around, and lets hope he can become as accomplished as his old man was in that position in the Cup final.

Out of the 5 players you named at RB only two are 1 twin and Phillips,, Willis has played there but he is one of the better cb's we have at the club.. I think TM is waiting to see how C Thomas, Lawton, Finch or Stevenson develop before going to CM, i do agree wide players and FW are needed...

We still need pace in the side in the forward positions we looked so much better when Samuel was here.

Given TM wanted the German (however you spell it) doesn't that say he will be looking for a taller target man who can finish on the floor too.

And the CM is woeful, it lacks a good DM.

Otherwise a speedy striker is always handy.

And another centre half with experience if he will be playing a back 4.

Those would be my priorities..

Top priority for me is the two best strikers we can afford and then a solid midfield. I'd rather have this than more defenders. I believe fleck could come food with quality around him going forward.

Willis alongside Ricketts would also suit me with Stokes at left back. It doesn't appear that Johnson will be staying unfortunately so Martin and Haynes will act as back up. We could probably do with another body, securing Pennington would go a long way to giving us a solid back line.

Having 3 relative young players in the defence would increase the need to have an experienced head between the sticks, I just cannot get on board with Burge being number 1, which a lot won't agree with.

A quality goal scoring midfielder is something we've missed for years and I certainly think we are due any surprises from anyone within our current ranks. JOB and Swanson will also need backup and to be pushed so arguably another 2 wingers could be required on this basis.

The gaping hole is up top, I just hope that TM has several irons in the fire who are all able to contribute 15+ plus.

Agree! If he stays fit he will be challenging for the golden boot I would imagine. What was it, £500k? Peanuts when you consider the potential return!

Yeah cuz that's exactly the same argument.

You say that in the current climate we can't afford to compete with a transfer fee of £500k, but that isn't to say the owners don't have those funds up their sleeves, they quite clearly have and have thus demonstrated by pissing away in excess of a million in legal fees. The sort of fees which could potentially bankroll a push for promotion at this level.

Irrespective of the above, I don't get why you would shoot someone down for mentioning the difference spending £500k on a proven striker will make at this level. Hardly slitting his wrists over the fact we haven't signed him is he?
