According to the pompy radio there was a bit of a scuffle between two cov players off the ball. Anyone see it?

I didn't see that, no. Was probably too busy on Twitter searching for info about a tile hill shooting. Anyone closer to home shed any light on that in return for these posts? ;)

Transfer window closes at the end of August last I heard.

Yes, but the season starts at the beginning of August. Can't just forget about the first 5 games of the season. Could be 15 points behind doing that. We have time and I want the right players, just concerned it's getting close.

Exactly true. Listen I agree with mowbray but there has to come a cut off point surely? Yes once the money is spent its spent but with no strikers for first 5 games of the season then playing catch up already. Should of been a striker or two in by now.

Spot on. we are always chasing when we do okay. Like when Robins took over, we were always chasing the top 6-10 teams, and never really established ourselves.

Get the main players in for 8th Aug and the squad players in during August.

I don't think Mowbray plans to lose all 5 games, we will get players between now and the first match but I think Mowbray is prepared to play the waiting game with regards to getting players in.

"This will be a big scalp for Portsmouth"

Does this guy know its a pre season friendly?

One of their fans said we were their biggest preseason game as the rest have been non-league. They certainly looked hungrier than us.

Just got home. Erm...I know it's only a preseason friendly but plenty of work to do. Lack of two good strikers up top really showed. Thomas is good but lightweight. In fact, we seemed lightweight all over. Whichever of the twins started LB looked really out of his depth. Still, only judging on one game so won't be too harsh.

Rameiras looked ok. Again, lightweight though. Reda looked rusty, Ricketts was pretty solid overall and Willis was, well, Willis.

Burge spilled a couple of shots/free kicks and still makes me nervous. I reckon the lad still has confidence issues.

Seemed good banter between the Pompey idiot with the bell and the Cov fans (sure i saw Robo there.

So for the report that requested, my thoughts are as follows;

Didn't et going in the first half. Serious words must have been said at HT.

Poor game for Fleck. Not sure if it was an odd day of due to the added pressure of having the armband. Just couldn't keep hold of the ball nor could he find one of his own players.

Burge still worries me. Made a few decent shot stopping saves but his kicking, and trying to be cocky will cost us before long.

Reuben looks decent, glad to hear Mowbray is trying to sort a deal out. He looked lively and had our best effort which would have gone in had if not been for a last ditch challenge from a defender.

Top class finish by Thomas but he was only ever going to score from a long ball; had no chance against Pompeys CB pairing who missed very little all game.

Couldn't tell if Swanson had done enough to earn an extended stay in coventry, but wouldn't be surprised if he was allowed to move on.

Reda looked ok. Looked slimmer. Will he and Ricketts be the answer for CB? I still worry about pace at the back.

Willis still isn't a RB, but is probably the only way he'll be getting a game.

A lot of improvement needed still, but we are still only two games into the pre season so a bit soon to hit the panic button.

As for ratings, but difficult to award ratings pre season, isn't it? ;)

WM, were you the 'local' City fan who spoke with the volunteers from the Family Zone? Spoke with someone who said they were only half hour away and thought it may have been you

I know pre season means nothing but I am getting a little concerned we are less than 3 weeks from the start of the season and we don't have anything like an adequate team.
In fairness...how many times have we had relatively good pre-seasons, done well up until 4-5 games in...then gone backwards.
These games mean something to TM & his staff...to most outsiders... No indication of how we will do in the real matches.

...onwards & upwards PUSB

No mate. I was speaking to a couple of Pompey fans when that knob was kicking off and then in the queue for a burger. Literally 5-10 mins home for me mate.

18 days now till the big kick off that's all. The squad is woefully short at this point, no surprise though really as all the investment will be in the legal team...................again !........still some time but will the football ever really be prioritised again while these utter cunts are in charge !?

Don't see the hand ball but one of our group was and still is adamant it was handball so just you and them :D

We moved down that end at 1/2 time and was about 15 feet away. 100% handball. Even the Pompey fans around us burst out laughing that it wasn't given. Still id rather get them during the season than in pre season.

Overall i thought we were bang average. Thomas did well up front, good movement and took his goal superbly, thought Lawton and Stephenson did well when they came on. Other than that no one really impressed. I know it was only a friendly but no apparent improvement on last season so far.

Looked very blunt going forward. Need 2 wide men and 2+ CF's.

Thomas worked hard but looked a boy against some big centre backs. Tudgay was too deep to provide support.

Have faith in an experienced manager. It won't have gone unnoticed but clock is ticking.

I haven't said you were the first person have I? Although it's a shame people don't get as excited about Match Threads in general as they do politics.

Anyway, back onto the topic, the Portsmouth game.

No you haven't and I am sure it was by chance it was my post that you jumped on. As I say I am also sure you will be doing this on all threads.
It is a very good thing to keep it in the OP's subject.

Oh and I personally am glad fans love the football and care about the long term future of their club as well. You don't have to have one without the other.

Back to the original topic,

This performance shows clearly why we desperately need the strikers. It may not be as bad a result as some feel. The timing could be very good for TM.

I was surprised we conceeded two though. I feel with Reda and Sam we will rarely conceed more than one.

All match threads will be kept on topic as much as possible where I can moderate them from the game and afterwards.

Any pics of the hooligan WM?

I know his name and have a picture of him. however , I'm not sure if it's the done thing to put that information on here ... If I were him , I'd stop going to games. there were some 'old school' pompey fans there last night and there was a nasty vibe behind the goal. think he was very fortunate to leave without any problems - if he did .

If it's the same guy I saw against Notts County away, then I genuinely think he's a few pence short of a pound. I'm not being horrible - he must be, noone acts like that

Got thrown out of chesterfield away. Singing "my name is ...... I came on the train". White substance involved, not sherbet.☺

Was he just walking round acting hard?

There was a lot of outstretched arms / shouting . I felt sorry for the old chap who was trying to drag him to safety. this old guy goes everywhere with CCFC. I assume he's not related to the young lad .
