Boro have bid £14m for Jordan Rhodes and signed Downing back who's on 60k a week. Derby have spent over £10m, Fulham have been bidding for loads of players and probably will spend over £10m. Ipswich rejected £5m for a 32 year old striker who's had one good season. Even smaller teams like Brentford and Bristol City have spent quite a lot and will continue to do so. Makes you think, is there much of a point of getting promoted? We wouldn't be able to compete with all these teams splashing the cash unless we got a rich new backer and would most probably go down straight away.

So, a few questions:
Are you worried that teams in the Championship can now go out and spend £15m on one player?! Seems pretty crazy to me. Robbie Keane of the worlds best youngsters only cost us £6m 15 years ago and that was deemed a lot even by Premiership standards.

Do you think SISU would spend money if we got promoted so CCFC can have the best chance of succeeding and getting back to the Premier League like all the other clubs in the Championship?

And, FFP? Boro don't get huge crowds, how can they afford to spend £20m on 2 players whilst probably paying them 50-60k a week each? Is FFP all a bit of a sham and easy to bypass?

There's no guarantee with spending that money though. I know it heightens the odds in their favour, but there have been teams that didn't spend much and been successful. That is absolutely crazy money for that division though. Ridiculous.

Financially we are currently not in that league. There is currently a massive gulf between the Premiership and the Championship. With each year the same gulf is opening between the Championship and League 1. I can't help but feel SISU have missed many boats.

1) good point.

2) yes, the boom or bust model is getting even worse in the championship. We will be even further behind than we were before we got relegated if we ever get promoted.

3)no chance, there is no guarantee of getting promoted to the PL by splashing the cash, and Sisu won't be doing that. If we get promoted we will have one of the lowest turnovers in the league and therefore we will have to spend far more than the majority of other clubs to compete for promotion - again no guarantees.

4) FFP rules are different 8£ the championship, clubs can lose £39m over 3 years. Downing thought to be on £35k pw not £60k still extortionate (http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...-the-championship-from-west-ham-10395828.html). With the PL being the power broker the football league will be far more lenient with championship clubs than League One/two clubs IMO.

Everyone in the championship is spending so much this season due to the new TV deal next year for the premier league, they are all taking a gamble on promotion as they can clear their debt as well as making a profit.

I for one wouldn't like promotion this year, I would rather have 2 summers to build a solid squad than go up via play offs this year , it might give us a better chance to stay in the championship. But no I doubt sisu would give much backing in the championship.

I would love to get promoted this year and worry about surviving when we get there, the best thing about being back in the championship is that you become more attractive to new owners as you are then only one step from the gold mine.

I read somewhere the Championship is the highest paid league for T.V. rights for a second tier league. I would say that is now starting to feed down to the clubs as well as the bonanza for getting into the Premiership.

To get us out of this league at the moment will take more then an extra five men over the course of the season. Just need to start the season with us pushing on promotion and then I guess a decision would be made if it worth a punt to get us back in the Championship.

the golden carrot got a shit load shinier with the new sky deal 20th place in the prem this year is 100mil in prize money alone spending 20-25 million now could pay off big time next season if it comes off. FFP is a joke man city got round it by their owner sponsoring their own stadium for 450 million, there is always a way round things like FFP for those ambitious enough to play the system and find the loop holes.

Fully agree often had a spare ST and nobody would go. Do need a decent top 6 finish this year more than any other recent season

I think we are heading for a Premier 2 perhaps a 16 team top division and a 20 team second, something has to be occurring to be spending as they are may even explain sisu's sudden change of heart

In fairness, missing the reckless spending in the Championship boat might be sensible. City were fairly conservative in the Championship years yet still made significant losses every year.

We are now running at a similar level of finance and comparative backing as our rugby team. Both teams at 3rd tier level with support and ownership that will ensure survival and continuity but not necessarily success. For a City and catchment the size of Cov it's a pity that at least one club couldn't attract a seriously rich gambler !

I'd bring in fixed squad sizes in all divisions and a salary cap and floor in each division. If you get promotion but can't afford the salary floor you don't get promoted same as if you're ground isn't up the required standard.

People will say that is money well spent because they got promoted, but you're not guaranteed promotion, and if you don't you end up in the shit like us.

Interestingly I was listening to Steve Parish (Palace chairman) on radio the other day and he reckons a 9 million budget should see you about mid table in the championship. I was surprised as I thought it would be a lot higher.
