Has been linked to us. Was with TM at Celtic now without a club, I'm not saying we are signing him just been linked on Twitter and it makes some sense that we could sign him.

Mcguire signed for Rotherham,, 2 days ago.

Tbf that tweet was from the 11/07/15, so before maguire moved to Rotherham. Still a load of bs though

Agreed, seems ridiculously ambitious due to the simple fact that his wages would be far beyond what we would be willing to offer and he would not want to play at our level. The typical wage we put our players on is around 2-2.5 grand a week. Samaras would be on 10-15K per week minimum. Maynard is on trail with Nottingham Forest, Maguire has gone to Rotherham, Eagles is on trial at Preston. Whilst they would also be excellent signings, little point in discussing their availability because it would be extremely unlikely they would come to a club like Coventry considering our financial position and League 1 status

the average wage at the club is actually 1.2k a week, which is why we are struggling to get anyone in. Also I was saying the source was unreliable, as that post was around a month ago.

Not sure where you've got the '1.2K' figure from but I'll go with it because I don't have a clue myself but you'll find that the average wage in previous seasons was around the 2K mark however I realize the average wage for CCFC players this season could be around 1.2K because we did release 8 first team players last season and 13 out of our 23 players are from our youth academy and therefore on low wage contracts. But besides that I think you'll find I never mentioned the average wage of the club. However admittedly I should have been more clear cut in my post. In the past two seasons where our transfer budget has been capped at around the 2.5 million mark, supposed first team quality players that have been bought in via transfer have had a typical average salary of around 2-2.5K a week. To name a few: L. Clarke, Jackson, Nouble, O'Brien, Tudgay, Pugh, Johnson, Ricketts, Fleck. Obviously this does not apply to all players CCFC offer contracts to (E.g. Chris Stokes) but I do stress I meant players specifically bought in to play in the first team will be on this said wage. I imagine it will be similar this season as I cannot imagine Ricketts or Vincelot being on less than 2-2.5K a week however I could be wrong as I'm only speculating. Hence why I stated relatively obviously that we wouldn't be able to get anywhere near Samaras' contract demands if we were to make an extremely unlikely offer. I agree that obviously it's tricky to entice players to the club on what we offer but I think you're exaggerating when you say that we're struggling to bring anyone in as this has never been the case except under Andy Thorn. Resigning Johnson/Tudgay and signing Ricketts/Vincelot/Stokes/Lameiras and Mowbray assuring 3 more players are to come in, says otherwise. Yes we can't attract the highest of caliber player to the club but we've never had a player on over 10K a week in the last 5 years so this is not a new issue, we've always been fairly low down in the pecking order in terms of the transfer market. I do realize the source was unreliable though, I'm not shooting the messenger so no offence against you, merely stating my opinion to those who genuinely believe Maynard/Samaras/Eagles etc. could come in this season

There seems to be a lot of 4-12k a week footballers that are out of contract, what happens if they don't get offered a deal with another club?

That info comes from one of our ex players i can't remember who, who after leaving said that the average wage was now 1.2k a week, Callum Wilson was on 1.6k when he left... At the time with only baker on more money. it may be wrong but it was posted on here at the time.

I was agreeing that it's obvious we aren't gonna be able to get him, but also stating due to such a low wage budget we aren't going to be able to get the required proven goal scorers. It will be relative unknowns on loan.

Depends in a couple months they might decide that they have to drop their demands and league to find a club because their savings won't last forever. Which is what TM has said, is that players demand too much early in the window he feels holding out will get the most from his budget.

I can't believe that's right, the average wage for league one is around £1.5k per week, we have a higher than average wage budget so I would presume our average wage would be higher than that.

If we believe that we have a top 6-8 budget then we should be able to afford a proven goalscorer.

1. Are players privy to how much there colleagues are paid? At the higher levels maybe when its in the tabloids but at our level would they know what salary each other is on?

2. Have to remember at the time Wilson left the squad was pretty small as it was between transition of seasons.
Think it out logically, when Wilson had left Clarke, Moussa and Murphy had already left the club. All the loans from the previous season had returned to there parent clubs. Most of them would have been earning higher than Wilson.
Johnson, JOB, Swanson, Jackson, Tudgay hadn't arrived when Wilson had left, quite a few will be earning higher than the 1.6k you've mentioned for Wilson, then we have Nouble, Madine and other people who arrived during the season who would have been earning more than 1.6k.

So whilst it may be true (or it might not) that at the time of Wilson leaving he was our second highest player on 1.6k when he left, it isn't a true reflection of the budget as all the high earners from the previous season had already left and the high earners for the following season hadn't arrived yet.

What about fleck, must be on £2.5-3.5k pw? Or Barton, a player we paid £100k for and moved from PNE who would have been paying him a decent wage

Exactly, I'd imagine it is not true but even if it was at the time it doesn't tell us much as there are players who arrived after who would definitely be on more.

I'd guess our average is 2-2.5k with academy graduates earning below the average and our experienced players earning above.

Agree with you on the Wilson wage but don't forget Murphy went at the same time as Wilson, he was on more than triple was Wilson was earning.
That figure wouldn't surprise me to be honest. More than half our squad is made up of academy graduates. Players such as Harries, Lawton, Haynes, Phillips, Devon-Kelly Twins, Maddison, Stevenson, Finch, Willis, Burge can't be on more than £500-1000 per week maximum. Most of the useless Pressley signings consumed the majority of the budget last season. We've got more flexibility in our budget than we have had in recent years due to the fact that Mowbray hasn't gone off and panic bought 8-10 poor players before the start of the season which was Pressley's speciality. Without stating the obvious, unfortunately the days of CCFC bring in marquee signings are long gone, it's something that every Cov fan has to accept. In essence we are not a big club anymore. We have to rely on 4-5 loans a season in order to fill out the squad each year. You can get positive loan signings in our league though. Naming a few: McGoldrick, Grealish, Swift have been stand out loan signings at League 1 clubs in recent years. It just takes the right eye to pick them out from the herd.

Samaras hasn't been on trial with one club this summer and the season starts in 2 weeks. Is there a chance that no ones really interested in him and TM has given him a call in the last few days?

Imagine if he did sign though...what a fantastic boost that would be, weirder things have happened, like SISU spending money on a player.

Just checked the accounts that OSB posted - Our entire wage bill in 2013/14 was £6.9m, that includes management, shop staff, medical, etc. but a good proportion of that will have been the playing squad, no way the average was only £1.2k or that Wilson was the second highest paid player on £1.6k pw.

Does that wage bill include deadbeats like Fisher?

Clarke, Baker and Murphy were rumoured to be on 6k a week weren't they according to that Dailymail article

Skipper Carl Baker, striker Leon Clarke and keeper Joe Murphy were told before Saturday’s League One opener they can go to save an estimated £1million a year in wages.

The trio earn an average of around £8,000 a week, money Coventry can ill-afford in their current plight.

I don't understand the second part, is it implying they earn 8k a week each or they earn 8k the 3 of them put together?
