Wonder if this is happening to more players these days?

With finances the way they are in the lower divisions it must be a struggle for players like Daniels to make a career for themselves.

What advantage would it be signing Daniels, who would presumably cost more in wages, than giving that place in the squad to a prospect breaking through?

I can't remember what game it was but he gave the ball away every time he had it, was dragged at half time. Gives hope to us all.

Thomas and Finch will be non-league players in 3 years time.

Only if they have 3 years on there contracts here, Both could be non-league next summer and neither would look outstanding as they are not that type of player.

Big year for both of them and if their contracts were up today would they get renewed I doubt it.

Thomas is a decent prospect, still only 21. Confidence seems low in him.

He"ll turn out to be a very good player for us. Convinced of that.

Surprised about how low he has gone... But tbf I think I only saw him have 1 good game, and that was away at Barnsley in the FA cup season before last.

Why do some of our fans seem to delight in people who have been connected to our club failing?

Why do some of our fans champion bang average footballers just because they are 'Cov kids'?

Quite a diference between wanting to see local lads succeed and delighting in their failure I would have thought?

Personally I want to see the team succeed, rather than individuals that are born in Coventry. I don't think anyone is delighting in their 'failure'. It's not even failing, it's finding the level of football that matches your ability.

Agreed
In answer to LJC has anyone championed him or just hoped he could develop into a player we could utilise?

Have to agree, seems especially harsh considering the players age eg. Thomas and finch.

and also with Daniels, wasn't he actually a striker turned CM? I think he was our top scorer in his last year as an academy player? So never understood the position switch? Good luck to the lad, he wasn't as bad as has been made out on here, but didn't show it consistently enough to warrant a first team place here..

developing our youngsters is the only way that will happen. We don't have the budget to go out and buy a successful team. So I suggest you re read some fans posts across a variety of threads. We need fans to get off their backs and give some of the youngsters some support and tolerance....that way a couple at least might actually make the difficult transition into first team regulars.

It seems so, it's quite spiteful really isn't it? Can we not wish the lad well and hope he makes a decent living?

EDIT: Meant to quote Hobo

It brings into focus for Me the value of a cat 2 Academy or not .
I've heard arguments for and against yet don't know the answer, yet think there are questions over the value of It currently with the budget.
Is It the level we're at creating a problem on who we can attract into It?

In the past, we'd always run it rather badly (think Betts, Gooding etc. and other great hopes!)

Personally I always think an academy's worthwhile. 'All' you need is a Wilson every 5 years to make it worthwhile, and there's the added intangibles such as bond between club and community, fans able to identify, and players maybe more loyal to the club that gave them their break.

Most players will always fail, it's inevitable. But you don't need many to succeed for it to be worthwhile

If we decrease the level, it just means youngsters will get less coaching, less time 1 on 1, worse pitches and finally a relaxation in standard of fixtures played. Our u18's only play against other category 2 clubs if we were to demote it , they would play against worse opposition. The football league fund half of it and we fund the other. The half we pay does not come out of the budget as far as I am aware and so if we stopped why would it go into it?

Kids need the best circumstances and experience possible to become the best possible player. What argument could their possibly be for dropping the level down?

also most academy's below premiership only recruit local kids, there is enough talent to go around just depends on the coaching they receive.

I'm sure this Is right
Its more spending £500+K of our current budget as against transfers +wages to get out of L1.
Is ours any more likely to provide 3-4-5 squad members of the right calibre over attracting upper division rejects of similar or better quality?
