THIS.

Its pretty much everything he has been saying all pre season. No reason for any of us to doubt him now !

I don't see what else he can say. He took over a sinking ship. He is starting from the lowest point in our last 50 years. I don't doubt his ability - problem is more trying to get players to come to us or being able to pay what they think they are worth. Probably the reason it is all last minute. Don't panic.

No. If you're a footballer you try different things. The manager doesn't do it for you.

Of course but you can't just pinpoint that down to the players and complain about it. Surely if he's complaining about it, he should have done something to affect the game? Seems like poor managing to me

My observations on today's game:

* I see that we are lining up 4-2-3-1. Armstrong was the striker and we had Maddison, Lamiras and Swanson behind him as attacking midfielders.

* Fleck looked way of the pace today. Big season for him.

*Our team generally is very lightweight. Haynes is our second tallest player. For as good as Maddison is, Colchester and Gillingham centre halfs will boot him in the air.

* We looked okay going forward, Armstrong looked very skillful. Looking forward to seeing him play.

* Reda is very clumsy and careless. When he goes in to a player in the box, I always think penalty. He is slowly morphing into William Edgenguele.

* Oxford's number 19 is very fat.

Platt I don't know how the interview on CWR sounded but the one on the official website doesn't say Armstrong isn't his type of forward.

Its more that today he just didn't play the role that Mowbray would have liked him to do, probably due to lack of training/preparation time/understanding.

"Adam Armstrong did well but he didn't play the role like I'd like him to so we're going to work with him over the next week as you can tell he's got the quality.

He did say it to be fair, I thought he sounded like a broken man , like he needed a pick me up from some one

Well CCFC aren't going to publicise that Mowbray said that is he. Honestly he sounded like he was about to cry, sounded like he was fucking pissed off aswell at the team

Friendly logic:

This City team: CITY XI: Hart, Sagna, Kompany (C), Mangala, Kolarov, Evans, Nasri, Silva, Navas, Bony, Sterling #cityontour #mcfc

are 4-0 down to Stuttgart...

...at half time.

Didn't Southampton recently lose 7-0 to an unknown team? Their fans must be worried for the forthcoming season ;)

Whilst today was poor, very poor actually, I'll wait to see how we turn up in a competitive game before i begin to worry.

it is a bigger and more difficult job than he must have thought getting in the players he wants with what he has to play with.

Will listen to the interview later if it comes up on iplayer
he also said that they had dissected all the other games in pre season , but were just going to forget about this one ( a wise move in my opinion ,) as to they would get no positives out of it , like I say he seemed to me like he was trying to convince himself, however a win next week and im sure his confidence will come through again

Just listened to it, didn't seem as a despondent as is being made out and certainly didn't sound as if he was about to cry. I think he was seething at the performance (more than he let on) but was trying to remain calm and pragmatic which I think is the right approach.

On Armstrong his exact quote was 'he doesn't play like a centre forward that I would coach to play as a centre forward' so think its fair to say that Mowbray doesn't see him as being his first choice striker for the season and maybe Mowbray does want to utilise him in a different position as was suggested earlier.

Which would be a problem if the transfer window closed yesterday, it's not ideal but its much more important to get the right players for the whole season in a few weeks time rather than getting in the wrong players now.

Remind me, how long has the window been open?

And how many points are available between Wigan and when the window shuts?

Its no good looking at others results, or what we did 10 season or last season during pre season,, look at the squad, and asked the question, is it good enough, has it got enough depth for the normal suspension and injuries you get during a season.. The answer is No and No for me,, but is this squad going to be the sqaud we finish with, that is the only question that has 100% answer,, TM will need to improve the sqaud in every dept.. He is getting frustrated as posted weeks ago, he now is seeing what he has, what he can bring in and how hard it is to do this on a certain budget..

He can't look at lists of players that are out of his range and anyone who is the quality he wants that fits money wise every other club in our situation are after aswell.. Its alright knowing the game and having contact, but without the money to back it up you are pissing in the wind... Tough spot and with this squad TM will have to calm expectation down otherwise he will look like SP did in the end a fool..

Window has been open all summer

And to your second question not nearly as many as are available between September and May.

Would you rather lose 7-10 points in the first month because we started the first few games a bit short. Or would you rather lose 25-30 points over the season because we signed the wrong players?

Ideally you'd lose 0 and already have the team you wanted in place but that isn't possible.

I'm not saying additions won't be required over the season, but we haven't even got a solid starting 11 yet, never mind a squad.

Don't forget, it's not just the first 5 games, you get the bull shit excuse of the team "gelling" for 3 or 4 games after players are brought in. That's 8+ games... 24 points....

Too true. Today was worse than Tuesday which says something. We have no physical presence bar Johnson. We get bullied too easy. TM can only work with what he has and that isn't good enough. He'll end up being another SP and being a scapegoat for sisu who at the end of the day don't care about what happens with the club

Today especially showed that once again we go into another season with no one who can really change games from the bench. If Tudgay isn't going to be a starter due to Mowbrays choice of formation, then perhaps he is the exception.

Look at who came on today. Whilst the twins could possibly come on and have a bit of pace about them, they lack height (not their fault; I get that). Stevenson; has height, but where exactly does he play? Lawton; likes to get stuck in, and can be vocal, but is he ready? Finch; need I bother talking about him?

Others who weren't in the squad today for whatever reason may have something to offer; Obrien for example is the only senior player who was absent today. George Thomas can run about up top, but will he suit the way Mowbray wants to play? Connor Thomas; no matter how many tweets he wants to send saying its a new start etc, I don't and wont rate him.

Forgot for most of the game today that Ruben was on the pitch. Think he suits a more central role to being on the wing. I like Willis, but hes not a right back. Had a good game V Cambridge, but one game where he looks good wont help us over a season.

One week before the big kick off there are too many 'unknowns' about how we will line up over the season, formation wise and personnel.

Still, ill judge after how we perform against Wigan; not necessarily the result, but the players need to turn up at least, unlike today.

In comparison to the majority of the teams in this league our budget is competitive. There aren't that many teams that have significantly stronger squads than ours. The signings so far - despite taking a bit of time to make - have been good and TM expects more to come. So once again I cannot fathom how people are just assuming that SISU are fucking him and the fans over.

If we start the season off poorly then mounts more pressure on us in September. This is you saying he's going to be bring in 4-5 players from now till then which is what we need but is not going to happen. If we do get more players they need to gel which is what pre-season is for so in theory the start of the season for us could be October. By then it could be too late. We need positions filled in now otherwise the season will be over before it starts

Have you seen the size of the squad? It's not big enough and doesn't show quality to me. How many players of ours are proven at this level? Ricketts and reda. Who else? We were relegation fodder last season and so far in pre-season from what I've seen we will be again. Sisu have turned us from a championship team to league 1 relegation fodder due to many mistakes of there own.

If you have to be proven at any level before being given a chance, no-one progresses, ever, in any field of sport or work.

Poor attendance today aswell, not that it means anything for a friendly but shows how far we have declined. We used to have the biggest fanbase in Nuneaton, considerably bigger than Villa/Leicester in the 80s and 90s. Now, I'm not so sure. Dissapointing but understandable after years and years of mismanagement, crap players, crap managers and little to no excitement following CCFC.

I posted this time last season about the quality of our squad and stated how poor it looked.
The quality of the starting 11 looked threadbare, and the bench in terms of any threat non existent.
We survived by the skin of our teeth.
I'm equally as totally underwhelmed by our chances this time round.
The possible silver lining and it's a big ask is Armstrong, he is a hugely rated talent who may just come good.
