It's Dissapointing But.... (2 Viewers)

I know we are not in an ideal position at the moment (to put it mildly) but I look at it like this.

TM is a very cautious person, he has shown that in his 2 negotiations for the job, also last season after he got Ward in, he said he could sign others on loan but didn't see the point unless someone much better than what we had came along.

He has said many times that another 3 or 4 players are needed, and I think he knows who he wants and is prepared to wait until either he gets them or until any possibility of getting those players disappears before moving on to other targets.
The league won't be won or lost in August, and we'll suffer some defeats along the way no matter how many new players come in. So next week's game is just 1 of 46 to me.

Or it could be looked at like the realistic option of "we still have a shit squad who almost got us relegated last season" like many others at the moment. TM is no god, he needs the tools to match peoples stupidly high expectations for this season. And thus far, we're no better off still than last season.

Look at the difference 2 players made last year, Ward & Samuel. I seem to remember our form since TM came would have got us close to the playoffs over a whole season.

Whilst I agree we don't have those two players now. That's the point.

We could seriously lose the first 3 games, big loss of points that.

I know and these people who aren't panicking fair enough but two points one is what's the guarantee these players will be all that and two who says we all of a sudden start to win with them?

If you listen carefully to Mowbray's interviews he is as good as saying deals are well in the pipeline but there is a domino effect. I think he is waiting for the go ahead on Dominic Samuel and that would determine what happens next re. a striking partner and others. I was told ages ago Samuel is well keen to get back here and eager to play under TM, think it is down to Steve Clarke now.

One thing that hasn't happened with this squad yet, is a big crowd in a stadium they haven't played on a surface they haven't played on!

remember we have played at nuneaton twice, kenilworth road, the Abbey and Havant and waterlooville, don't under estimate how much the surface will help us with the type of players we have!

Although it would happen the other way (ie the the other team could reap the benefits....!

My disappointment is we didn't keep either Nouble or Turgott, both i think would have fitted in nicely in the way we are trying to play!

Armstrong is a fantastic prospect, we just need the proven players to come in (2 players i would say) and 2 loans!

squad isn't far away just needs boosting, but can understand the frustration! Although the doom and gloom is not needed in my eyes!

I completely disagree. Vincelot is the combative midfielder we have been crying out for, for some time. Ricketts should improve us defensively. We also have Lameiras and Armstrong who should add a bit of creativity. We now need a striker, a winger or two and, for me, a goalkeeper. We'll be better off than last year eventually but don't expect top 6 type miracles.

Really don't understand those that use history of PSFs etc to have confidence now.

So what if we lost all PSFs nearly 30 years ago? Do we have the same players, staff or even club/stadium now? No.

Completely irrelevant.

PSFs are completely irrelevant. Panic after next week if you must, not now.

By the way, Wigan have only won 1 pre season friendly against Southport. Drawn or lost the rest including a draw against Altrincham. Wonder if they are panicking?

Reading their reaction yes they are. Caldwell sounded just as downbeat as mowbray when I read the relevant articles to purely check on them. Maybe if we agree a 0-0 draw before the game we are all happy?

Seriously though Wigan haven't been playing well either results have been crap for them also. They are suffering a relegation and a basic squad turnover that happens when you get relegated. 7 out and 7 in policy.

Next week will tell us a lot in my opinion.

Yep as completely irrelevant as the last 5 games

Yesterday proved to me that we need someone up front that the ball can be played up to and then hold it up .
The smaller more skillful players can then play off him.
Yesterday the number of balls played in the air to our small forward line rather than into the channels was frustrating.

I'm sure in my mind this is the sort of thing that is holding things up, no guarantees that it will happen or that it will work but there never is. I'm not a blind optimist but I can see getting the right player(s) in even after 3 or 4 games have been lost is a better option than getting the wrong people in early on.

I agree, if your keys targets were still possible options, why abandon them and go for someone just to say we have made a signing.

Lets remember the general standard in this division is pretty poor. A lot of teams would be turned into promotion contenders with a couple of higher quality players, the right attitude & a bit of luck. Look how close teams were mid table, not much between going up or going down.

Hopefully TM can use his long experience to get us right up there. Feeling positive today !

Agreed. It boils down to this... do you agree with and trust TM or don't you? I do.

Remember that when Bournemouth got promoted to the Championship they had a crap start to the Season. Bottom after the first four fixtures. TM told us straight that this is a TWO YEAR re-build, not one season wonders! Too many on here are expecting far too much.

Agree with the OP. He also said it's best to wait until we get the players we want rather than rush out and buy our usual crap.

A signing this week of a forward/winger etc, would make a lot more people confident of the first 5 games IMO.

Did you even read his post? No stupid expectations put forward. I don't know anybody who has expectations as such, most are just looking forward to the football. Not wrapped up in an obsession with what SISU have done and might do next.

Exactly. In theory we should have one of the best defences in L1, (except possibly in goal) admittedly we have let goals in against lower opposition but they will need time to gel. The midfield is getting there with the addition of Lameiras and Vincelot, and I know the striker's role is/are the most important positions, but the point is, it's not exactly a lost cause before the season has even started.
I still think we will be nearer the top than the bottom come next May. (Much nearer)

If our defence is solid, big IF, then we should be able to get by, scoring the odd goal in the first couple of games. We'll just have to wait and see how the next week pans out....

PSF results mean fuck all. It's trial and error & fitness, nothing else. It really isnt a marker on the actual season. There are clubs that have had woeful pre seasons and romped leagues and vica versa. This Saturday onwards is what counts. If we were smashing each team in PSF 4/5-0 would you all think we would romp league 1 because I dont. TM did say its a 2 year project in building this team. Everyone needs to chill out.
