The Sky Blues have joined forces with Coventry City Girls FC to continue the club's presence in women's football in Coventry...
Coventry City FC are delighted to announce a new partnership with Coventry City Girls FC.

Coventry City Girls are an FA charter standard club which have seven teams, ranging from Under-10 to Under-18 who play in the Coventry & Warwickshire league and a first-team who play in the West Midlands League, having been founded in 1995 to encourage girls to take up football.

As part of the new partnership, the Sky Blues will support Coventry City Girls in a range of community initiatives through Sky Blues in the Community, marketing and promotion through the club's official channels and fund-raising support.

The official launch of the new partnership will be when City face Chesterfield at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday, September 19th with the entire Coventry City Girls club in attendance.

SBitC Director Dave Busst said: "We're delighted to be able to form a new partnership with Coventry City Girls.

"Sky Blues in the Community have already got great links with the club as we've worked on various projects over the years to promote girls football in Coventry.

"It is a grassroots club who are dedicated to helping girls get into the game and we're looking forward to supporting them in any way possible in the future."

Iain Dixon, chair of CCGFC said: "We're delighted with our agreement to work in partnership with Coventry City FC.

“The ethos of Coventry City Girls FC is to encourage and develop participation in female football for players of all abilities, not just at an elite level, in a positive and supportive environment.

"We believe that our partnership with Coventry City FC will be a positive step for the development of our club and for girls and women’s football in the area.”

CCFC Chief Executive Steve Waggott said: "Of course, we were disappointed to lose our association with Coventry City Ladies but we're really excited about the opportunities this partnership will present.

"With so much focus on the women's game, we're hoping this new partnership will encourage more girls to take up the sport across the city of Coventry, particularly at a grassroots level."

CCGFC player and coach Rheo Donnelly said: "As both a player and coach at Coventry City Girls FC, I'm really excited for the club to become an official partner of CCFC. Not only would it present a number of fantastic opportunities for both clubs, but personally there would be a sense of pride to represent the team I have always supported.

"With us now the official team of CCFC, it will contribute further growth for females within the sport, specifically within Coventry area.

"I cannot help but look forward to the forthcoming season as both clubs continue to grow and succeed together."

I would like to think once the U18 team finishes the season, City can reclaim the "CCFC Ladies" name from those splitters at Utd. & continue into the womens leagues......

I'm confused and I know it's not hard but hasnt the ladies team recently moved over to Coventry Uniteds 'corner'? So this is the girls team? Whats the difference? Younger age groups? Wouldnt the girls age groups tie in with the ladies team in terms of ladder progression etc?

Excellent move. Great for ccfc and for women's football in the city. As JHfanclub suggests I hope this enables the senior girls to move on up the leagues and become CCFC Ladies

Agreed - good move by the club and shows a commitment to female football, which was hinted at that there wasn't by the old ladies team.
Coventry City girls do have an adult team already (http://www.covcitygirlsfc.co.uk/site/index.php/1st-team). The article mentions a first team that plays in the West Midlands league which provides the link from the junior sides to an adult women's team. My guess is the adult side keep the 'Coventry City Girls' name because there was already a CCFC ladies... Now there isn't i guess there is no problem with changing the senior side to Coventry City Ladies?

Coventry City Girls isn't the same thing as the Coventry City Ladies (now Coventry United) girls teams. Would be good if this eventually leads to a new senior womens team.

There is a first (adult) team at Coventry City Girls, which plays in the West Midlands League already, so there is a pathway for the junior players. Presumably they all came under the 'Coventry City Girls' banner as there was always a ladies team - although that is no longer the case, so presumably there is nothing to stop them changing the name of the adult team if that is what they wanted to do now?
