Is Burge Good Enough ? (8 Viewers)

To be our number one ?

Mowbray seems to have faith in him, and while I think a more experienced keeper between the sticks would certainly help us this season I do think that Burge is decent and certainly worth sticking with.

I just wanted to gauge other people's opinions as I'm very much on the fence as far as he's concerned.

Could he be a top keeper in a couple of years with the experience he's gaining being number one ? Would you like to see the other young lad given a chance against Rochdale ?

Potential to be No 1 but what is glaringly obvious is he needs someone with experience to train alongside and to push him for a starting spot.

Oh great, let's have this discussion for the 75,000th time.

I know.

I will say it again. Burge is a decent keeper who has got to be without knowing obviously on a relatively low wage and is a Cov kid. He is decent enough with a good back four to not warrant spending on a top draw keeper which would be great but priorities exist and the priorities are wingers and certainly strikers. They cost a lot more and more important to winning football games and creating entertaining football to get the fans back.

Apologies I must have missed previous threads on this ?

Was just curious if others rated him and if people thought we needed a more experienced keeper on the books along side him,

Sorry if this has been brought up before :-/

A number on here await with baited breath for his first clanger that leads to a goal and there's bound to be one so they can have a go. The kids okay imo and by the way experienced goalkeepers cost thousands of pounds a week.

This season I think he'll have to be good enough because with the budget available we can't afford to bring in another GK. I agree with the overall opinion that we need a quality experienced GK to provide competition for Burge and this should be a priority target in next seasons summer transfer window. Charles-Cook seems to be at the standard of a third choice GK at the moment and is one that needs constant coaching from Oggy over the next 2/3 seasons if he stays with us in order to improve. Therefore with him not in the frame for the number 1 spot he doesn't provide enough competition for Burge to help his development. Overall though Burge has a lot of quality but whether he is ready this season remains to be seen. He still has a great deal of improvement needed to be considered a 'top keeper' (Kicking/Commanding of his box/Positioning) but I hope he does well

People keep posting he's 'ok' or 'fine'. That's not good enough in my book as I would hope to see 'good' or 'fantastic shot stopper' or ....well you get the drift. I think he has potential but isn't there yet. I would welcome an experienced keeper to push him hard for the number 1 slot. However TM sees it differently and he is the boss. He got it right on Saturday and I'm sure he won't be far out in his assessment of burge.

He's good enough but I would think there are certainly better keepers who we could get at L1 level. Seems with our budget TM has decided the money is better spend elsewhere. Hopefully being number 1 and playing behind some experienced defenders will raise his game. If not we might have to look elsewhere for next season, if not before.

Completely agree chiefdave. Good enough but there are better. He had a very competent game on Saturday and has good rapport with reda

I think he's fine but the answer on here will be a resounding no

Ditto, provided he has a good defence in front of him. You've got to learn sometime!

He was fine on saturday. If he continues to be fine then he'll be fine. Fine.

I always get nervous and start to twitch when people use the word fine.

When my wife asks me does how she looks in the dress she has paid £200 for and a new haircut and I say "Fine" this never seems to go down too well.

But we don't have an unlimited budget so there's a good chance that if we wanted to bring in a keeper fitting that description it would be at the expense of bringing in another player such as a winger or forward.

Thought he played well on Saturday. He still makes me a bit nervous though. We'll see I guess.

I told a woman at work she looked nice the other day and she said 'don't I usually then'. I mean what the fuck am I supposed to do with that?

Seems I dropped a clanger with this thread. I didn't realise there had been a recent one.

That said, my question of would you start Charles-Cook tonight seems to at least be a decent topic as he is playing.

We have two good young keepers and it frees up budget for deficiencies in other areas. Also the loan system can be used as some point as top clubs have three or even four keepers.

Too many fans have convinced their minds that Burge isn't up to scratch, but without giving him a chance to show he is developing. I have seen posts about how he didn't have much to do on Saturday, but all the lad can do is what he has to do.

Fans need to support the Group, our progress depends on development, youth will make mistakes and they need a supportive environment.

Despite his handling that caused the penalty, I thought he did very well yesterday.

Grew in confidence, catching crosses etc as the game went on, and obviously a good save for the penalty.

I'd rather we have LB than that Allsopp in goal.

Since I met him in barber shop he has not conceded a goal and also has a pen save to his name. You are welcome boys!

In all seriousness thay was a shit spill to give away pen and we shouldn't let wins blind us to fact he's not quite there. However he is improving and whilst we are winning no need to panic and change it.

I don't think we need to buy a keeper cos once burge goes off boil reeve wi come in and he's quite good. By time he goes off boil burge will be refreshed and ready to come back in!

Hopefully by end of season we will be champs and have 2 keepers who are realising their potential.

If we were to be promoted then surely a new keeper would be one of the first positions you'd look to fill.

He's still improving so he's going in the right direction. The real question is how much more can he improve. He's in no way ready for a step up to the championship but come the end of the season who knows.

You'd think so but to get promoted this season Burge will have to continue to improve massively, ive seen him twice out of 3 games this season and other than the penalty (of which he instantly made amends) he hasn't really put a foot wrong,

Hard to berate a player before he's let a goal in....
