Chief football writer at Yorkshire Evening Post Phil Hay reporting that we're in for Nicky Ajose.... Anyone know what he's like? (Sorry if there's a thread about this already)

Isn't he a striker though? Would we have to play two up top to accommodate him and Armstrong?

Decent player but not sure if he'd come as a bit part player, unless he could play in the Maddison role, allowing Rubén to return to playing more wide

6ft tall as well a bit of height up front if he is good at hold up and lay offs maybe Armstrong will fill his boots,I thought Hunt and Mooney caused our defence problems last night with the traditional tall and small players

Yeah I agree with that, Johnson couldn't handle their movement at all he was all over the place. As you said, a bit of physical presence up front wouldn't go amiss.

Wages are a problem, he still has two years on his contract. Loan is a more likely option.

Andy Turner has stated he earns 2 to 3 times more than city players so loan would probably be our only option. He fits the bill of what we need. I haven't been to games yet but from what I am hearing, the last couple Armstrong hasnt really been in the games. Sounds like he is making the right channels and the endeavour is there but it sounds like teams are marking tight knowing hes the threat which is obvious when you have had the start he's had. We need another big threat up front to make it even more difficult for defenses. If I was playing Cov away, I would basically say to mark Amstrong and keep Murphy quiet and your half way there.

Apart from yesterday's second half, teams haven't had to worry much about Murphy IMO.

Again, on the radio but sounded a real threat 2nd half. Apparently he has not quite settled in yet ie Accomodation so when he 'feels at home' he could be a gem.

No denying he looked better yesterday in the second half. And yes, he's not been here long, I'm not criticising him, but don't think he poses as much of a threat as Armstrong, so doubt opponents will be thinking 'he's a man we should mark out of a game'.

This lad is quicker than Wilson, we need a player just like him.

I've been saying for a good few years about Nicky , I've watched him grow up , even mentioned him to Cyril and Benno about how fast and skilful he is. Just like his dad Pete R.I.P fingers crossed we get him

No doubt it would be over money...............again !

What makes you think that??

"Leeds had wanted the club to cover the cost of paying up his two-year contract, where he’s understood to be earning three to four times more than the average City player, with the player looking for a decent settlement on the remainder of his deal.

That put Coventry out of the running and it appears that Swindon have now stolen a march on the Sky Blues."

I don't expect us to break the bank but to have any chance of competing over a 50 + game season we need to bring in a few more decent players to bolster the ranks. Didn't somebody post that we are now down to about 15 first team squad players ? Our friends SISU have reduced the club shop to a kiosk, the ticketing operation to a joke level, closed stands to reduce matchday costs, we have some of the lowest policing costs around yet our crowds are among the highest in the League. There must be something left in the pot ?

How can Swindon afford this, as their attendances are lower than ours.

Well that's unfortunate. Swindon have received around £4million in transfer fees this window so that's how they can afford to pay out his contract. On to the next target.

Wilson and Clarke fees just a year or so ago?

I believe Swimdon have serious finance issues too, not sure what Ajose will cost but they have had to sell their best players first as we all know only too well that's always a gamble

They don't. Power has gotten rid of the large earners (Foderingham and Williams) and has used the majority of transfer money to run the club/clear the debt. They have a smaller budget than most, but they are run sustainably.

The Byrne money will definitely have been used to fund this move.
