Called it when he wasn't in the 18 for Southend.....once that happened I knew he was a goner.
Shame but he will be on decent wages so probably not a bad thing to get him off the books if
TM was not in reality going to use him much!

Sky Blues boss frees up wages after being unable to guarantee the winger regular football

Coventry City boss Tony Mowbray says it was a tough decision to let Danny Swanson go but says it has enabled him to use the winger’s salary to strengthen other areas of the team.

The Sky Blues manager admitted that the 28-year-old, who this week had his contract terminated by mutual consent a year early, would have found it difficult to get in the side ahead of his rivals and was too much of a luxury to use as a bit-part player from the bench.

“I had a lot of long one on one conversations in my office with Danny Swanson and I hope there’s a mutual respect for each other on the way it worked out,” said Mowbray of the player who is expected to sign for Scottish Premier side St Johnstone on a free transfer.

“I don’t think anyone could deny his talent as a footballer. There are just other issues, I think, for him to get into our team and play on a regular basis, which is what he wanted to do and I highlighted to him that was probably not going to happen.

Swanson could now sign for St Johnstone
“Was he going to play in front of O’Brien or Lameiras or Murphy or Maddison when he’s fit? Those were the questions and ultimately the decision was made that we could utilise his salary in other areas of the pitch.

“I said to him that in different circumstances I like players with his talent; I like what he can do with a football. I think we’d have to have got him fitter and working harder, and he understands all that.

“With his fitness levels I could only ever see him coming off the bench and trying to impact a match for us.

“In the end he just wanted to play football and I couldn’t guarantee he’d get in our team so the decision was made and he goes off to play football in Scotland and we have a salary that we can use elsewhere.”

He added: “A tough decision was made in the end. He is like one of those kids who just wants to play football in the street, nutmeg people, flick it up and volley it in the back of the net and have fun.

“They are great footballers to have but they have to run, get back and tackle, win headers and slide in and get up and run and take men on. It’s proper football so I couldn’t guarantee he was going to start.

“If we were in a different place with more money and a bigger squad he’d fit into that squad and come off the bench on a regular basis and create and score goals and try to get himself in the team. But where we are we’re not in that position and needed the money to do other things.”

Been confirmed up here that hes not signing for us, as we seemingly refused to match his wage demands. No idea where he'll end up now, but I suppose i'd be aswell leaving this site now.

Fare ye well this season!

I may be missing something here... Unsurprisingly as it is 241 in the bar of the hotel I am in.. I know we slag off the standard of Scottish football, but the Premiership must be as good as League 1? And two of their teams see something in the guy that we never really saw? Not that I want him back compared with what we have!

2 large Jack Daniels and Coke... £7.... Jobs not too bad today!

you are missing the fact he has a very real chance of playing in the top league of his country .... Wait that will probably mean euro football also. I do not slag off Scottish football

he did not want to be at Cov for the above reasons

you should have had a scotch by the way
