I can't see how she can stay in power now. Unless of course there is a royal decree from the House of Lucas. I've always liked the idea of democracy.

Maybe they should ask the Monarchy Society to do the next people's pole.

No. We're going to ignore a Premiership rugby team based in our city.

If you are serious, can you please make a start by removing the 'Wasps RFC' section on your web homepage and replacing it with 'Coventry RFC', a team that has been playing in this City since 1874??

I am not serious.

Please contact the editor with your suggestions. He will also be able to explain the editorial decisions better than I.

What a great pity that you are not serious Simon.

A pipe dream I know, but here's hoping that Cov Rugger can get their act together on the pitch and achieve promotion to the Premiership. Now that would be interesting.

Strangely enough I think the Democratic Society is one of the biggest threats to Democracy I have seen in years.

Let me explain:

Remember the German Democatic Republic, the old East Germany. They called themselves Democratic but the Western World would have a tendency to disagree with their definition. For a Society or Business or Spin Doctors, I can't tell which one the Democratic Society is yet, they certainly haven't thought this through, and if they have then it is one of the most cynical things I have ever seen to try and shut up an electorate. The worst thing is that this has not happened in a third world country but in Coventry!

What I would ask from the Telegragh is easy:

You have a few sources trying to muddy the water and telling the people of Coventry what Democracy is. I would have a brief stop off at the below link and find out what these people think of what has happened over the past few days in Coventry, and the roles of Council, Political parties and of course the Democratic Society has played in the abandoning of Democracy in Coventry.

Seeing that Liberty is a huge part in the intrinsic nature of Democracy then it is only right to get a view from them.

Well this is much like how private schools are called public schools despite being nothing of the sort. Or how Tony Blair was made peace envoy to the Middle East.

Yes, it is all a bit Machiavelli, which between you and I, 'The Prince' was the staple diet of 'New Labour'.

How to get hold of power and how to keep hold of it.

It will be intriguing to see if Lucas thinks she can hold onto power. I believe she will be like all the other 'New Labour' politicians, and power will have to be removed from her clenching hands. One finger at a time.

The only ray of sunlight I can see in this is the future vote of the Council coming up on this issue. At the moment it is only Lucas and Reece (is it?) who are involved from the Council offices. However, if any Labour Councillors decide to side with Lucas over what has happened with the destruction of Democracy in the city, then it will implicate the Councillors whom will vote for her through consent.

This is the problem the grassroots has at the moment. They don't know the size or scale of the problem within the local party.

I do believe Maton has pushed himself out of the running for El Presidente though with recent comments he has made. I would even go so far to suggest that de-selection could be on the horizon.

I found it very interesting to see that the Tory councillors preferred to merge with Warwickshire despite this obsession with 'powerhouses' being a Tory creation. Really all the idea does is to create the same biases towards the most populous areas within a given region. In ours Birmingham would have the most say, in a Cov/Warks one it would be Coventry. My concern is we revert to being like regions in Anglo Saxon times squabbling over who gets the most gold and within those regions you will still be getting local bias.

Much like how in Scotland all the services are centralised in Glasgow and Edinburgh whose councils get the most funding because that's where most of the voters are, but regions like the one I live in are largely ignored and the further away you go from the central belt the less attention is paid. All it does is create the same antagonism people currently have towards Westminster/London towards somewhere a bit closer to home.

Yep, Devo Max started in Scotland and then following a Utilitarian response from Government it is now being forced on the rest of the country. I am not arguing if it is a good thing or not, but the processes which are behind this. Being elected to a council by the people does not give you the power to change the shape and scope of the council power without the peoples say. Unless of course your thinking of turning the council into an Authoritarian regime with you sitting at the top as the local Despot.

Surely Lucas can't think she can do this?

She needs to be removed with a matter of urgency.

The breathtaking arrogance I got back from the councillors I contacted on the Ricoh sale suggests to me that they are happy doing whatever in the hope or knowledge that they will always be elected. That sort of complacency has seen Scotland going from having 40-odd Labour MPs when I started uni there to having 1 by the time I eventually leave. Anywhere Labour has been in charge for a long time they get complacent and start forgetting what got them their majorities in the first place.

The people of Coventry have a chance to remind these people that their positions are not a guarantee, and if Lucas denies them a say in this non-trivial matter I hope they do so.
