Just watched the penalty shoot out and i noticed that RCC jumps forward and then to the side when facing a penalty, in most cases the penalty was almost past him by the time he had jumped forward, so the late dive is in vain.
Madison said that CCFC had been practising pens the day before so surely this should have been picked up and corrected.
Never going save a penalty with this style unless it's hit down the middle.
I know other keepers do this but they normally move before the ball is kicked (yes i know they should not do this but they do and get away with it), so don't loose as much time for the side dive.

Should RCC be encouraged to
A cheat and move early or
B stop moving forward and just dive one way or the other

Every keeper will have their different technique but for me it's all down to the quality of the penalty. 9 times out of 10 even if the keeper guesses the right way if the penalty is good enough it won't be saved.

Agree with that, but by moving so far forward he is reducing his chance of saving them.
If you watch most keepers, they move a split second early and dive to one side or the other, even then they don't often get to the ball early enough to make the save, with what RCC does he really is not helping himself make saves.

I actually used to play in goal myself when I was younger and had a technique where my starting position would be behind the goal-line and as they ran up I'd bring myself forward. It was honestly very effective and I saved my fair share. Ultimately the goalkeeper is not expected to save a penalty and although I see where your coming from, most would argue the further you are off the line the better chance you have of saving it.

Doesn't moving forwards reduce the angles and narrow the area the striker has to shoot into?

But by the time he has moved forward the ball is almost past him. Most keepers who move forward move early RCC almost stays on his line till the kick is taken so has no time to move forward and then to the side.

not if the ball has almost already past him by the time he completes his move forward, like i have already said most keepers who do this move forward early.

Can't see any issues with that. He has already move forward and dives as its being kicked.....

I mentioned this in the match thread I think (well I mentioned it to myself at the time so atleast I hope I got round to sharing it with a wider audience :D).

I think that had he saved any of them, the ref may have, and I put 'may' due to the standard of ref we had that night (again), asked for them to be retaken due to the way he was diving outwards rather than across goal. Aren't keepers supposed to stay on their line, even if that is quite a difficult ask?

Yep. Supposed to stay on their line. From that still though the player is right at the point of striking the ball and it looks like RCC has only taken the tiniest move forwards.

Need to see the video to be quite honest. That still doesn't quite give the full picture.

Couldn't access the video before, so will give it a look now.

Can't see much wrong with that at all, other than it being illegal.

Only one looks a half-hearted effort. He moves forwards and then dives sideways.

All he's doing is trying to narrow the angles.

Goalkeepers are also taught to dive forward at an angle as if they parry, this gives them the best chance of parrying away from goal or around the post, if you just dive backwards or sideways your more likely to parry into own net if you get a touch.

It's very rare that a keeper will actually 'save' a correctly struck penalty. It's usually that the penalty was poorly taken. The best penalties in my opinion are along the ground right into the corner since it's more difficult for the GK to get down than to reach up. A good PK taker should score 9 out of 10. It's a skill that can be learned and perfected with practice just like any other. Managers who say there is no point in practicing them are idiots. The GK can gain an advantage if he knows where the kicker has placed past penalties but that is rarely possible with a penalty shootout since the players are not the usual penalty taker.
