A group of us in the pub last night were talking about magicians like Dynamo and David Blaine as someone had seen Dynamo at one of his live shows. He said the stuff he did was awesome and he left trying to work out how he did it all ? One bloke said it is just tricks while another said it is just an illusion whatever that means.I like watching them on the telly but I get irritated because I'm confused as to how it works ? What do others think about magic ?

Sleight of hand, illusions, and (literally) a few tricks up his sleeve.

Not a bad way to make a living that's for sure.

I saw Blaine in London in a perspex box in 2003, people were laughing at the inanity of his stunt, calling him a tosser etc.

He is not a magician, he is a bit of an a***ole

And before you ask, no I did not go specially, I was working nearby at the time.

I can't stand the Dynamo tv show when he does stuff like disappear and reappear on a building 500 yards away to the "shock" of a load of fully paid up stooges.
The close up slight of hand stuff is cool though

Best I have ever seen has been Derren Brown. If you called him a magician though I think he would be deeply offended.

He doesn't believe in magic or anything like that,he's more into the power of the mind. There's an American bloke who once offered a million dollars to anyone claiming that they could speak to the dead to prove to him that they could etc ? He says they're all fakes and he still has kept his money, and he's a friend of Brown I think.

The great Randi I think, he used to follow Uri Gellar around and tell everyone how he did things. He was a magician but got fed up of people saying they could speak to the dead and move things with their mind.

That's the bloke he once was a magician himself and escapologist like Houdini.I've googled him and he's in his eighties and still alive and still holding on to the million dollars. He wrote about some of the people who tried for the money, and some of the stories are hilarious. One bloke said he'd been abducted by aliens and since then he would glow in the dark.So Randi took him to a room sat him in the middle and turned the lights off,and invited some random people to go in and witness him glowing etc. They entered the darkened room but couldn't see anything so the test ended. The chap said he never lit up because he hadn't eaten that day,so they told him to go and eat and come back but he never did ! Brilliant !
