Don't disagree with you at all Weeman. I was interested in TM's comments that he could see the benefit in terms of stamina on the pitch linked to the overnight stay. I guess it's a balancing act for clubs at our level between these benefits and the costs involved.
I mentioned the Sheff Utd example as they are a club of similar standing to CCFC - unless of course the money frm their Premier League days is still dripping through?
Do you know what the options are if a team elects not to have an overnight stay? Do they drive straight to the ground or is there an arrangement with a local school/club for some sort of training facility and refreshments prior to the match?

Normally, they'll travel on the day but still have a pre-match meal somewhere, normally a hotel. They won't train on the morning/afternoon of a game other than maybe a light walk somewhere if it's a quiet-ish area.
For a 3pm kick off, they'd probably have their PMM late morning and then head to the respective stadium at 1/1.30pm.

There's no proof in what you are saying.
Its entirely plausible the revenue from the extra 1,000 is going into the managers playing budget and then Mowbray is taking out of that pot for these overnight stays.

Pretty sure we don't get anything significant, its possible we get a small percentage (5%?) of away tickets sold.

whether or not you agree with where the money is coming from, it is clear that we are spending every pound wisely - Exactly what we didnt do in the past - and the reason why we ended up with a couple of dodgy Hondurans, belgians, swedes etc

Would be very difficult, have to consider any promotion bonuses that has to be paid to the players for promotion and also the fact that the current players would probably be entitled to a wage increase as well as any other increased costs like greedy agents and possibly increased rental costs at the Ricoh.
Dunno about comfortable, but I reckon he could keep us in the championship.

On Saturdays showing, the rest the players got didn't really help us much, apart from Fleetwood looked tired quicker than we did towards the end, but I out that down to listening to Pressley in the dressing room talking tactics and 'out of possession play' rather than the day our team travelled

I wasn't aware of that. If that is the case, you'd wonder why Cov are one of a few clubs on that "shouldn't pay less than £20 for an away ticket" brigade. If we're getting all money (or majority) from away ticket sales for home games, then we'd be ripping off the away teams coming to play us!
Especially as they have the persona of being tight!

Yea, there was talk at the time of getting opposition teams to do the same price for when Coventry fans go away but it seems nothing came of it as other clubs obviously don't want to lose out on revenue.
I guess they thought it would make good pr for the club by backing the twenty is plenty campaign.
I don't know for sure about the % but I'm pretty sure people have said it on here before. (When we were at sixfields and nopm was in full force people were saying to buy away tickets directly from the opposition club so CCFC didn't get commission on sales)

We 100% should be travelling the night before for MOST games. The players can relax mid morning as opposed to being in traffic on whatever motorway. Sitting on a bus is not ideal match preperation.
To put it into perspective Sir Alex had the man utd squad in a team hotel the night before HOME games so he could control their environment on the most important day in a players week. I realize we cant afford to do this, but only to stay in hotels the night before a game if its more than 2 hours away is not giving us the fine margins that matter so much. Not to mention the team bonding nights away together can give.
Hotels, even branded ones booked on mass are cheap and if the club are clever they could easily get a remote hotel with a spa, snooker, darts, table tennis etc 15 miles away from most grounds in the UK.

On the face of it you would think that staying in a hotel overnight prior to a game would benefit the team but do I not remember a time when we were due to play at Spurs and the team bus broke down on the way resulting in the players getting on the tube for the rest of the journey. We won the game! Perhaps it is down to mental attitude over personal fatigue!!!!!!
