Today! I thought Murphy did well but the other forwards looked like they never met

Other games we have brought forwards into play with fast interplay but today once we got past a player we slowed it down.

Fortune was so frustrating today, held on to the ball for far too long.
The job of a target man is to take a touch and lay it off to another attacker. He was often slowing down moves too much.
As the other poster above me has said, I think at home we're better off with Armstrong up top and another attacking midfielder behind.

Fortune was my Man of The Match today, which goes to show how opinions differ on the game (quite a few on phone saying he was awful) he did fade towards the end but his strength and hold up play was amazing, the reason he held on to the ball so long on occasion, was the lack of movement and options around him, you could see it was starting to frustrate him in the second half.

Will agree with this. Others, especially Armstrong were too far away.

I thought Murphy, Kent and Armstrong were all disappointing. Murphy and Kent in particular hold onto the ball far too long then choose the wrong option.

They were all disappointing, doesn't help when Fortune was rubbish in front of them and wasn't linking or bringing them into play. You could see as the game ran on none of them wanted to give Fortune the ball as he would either give away or hold onto it for about two minutes and take any momentum out of the attack.

Would be interesting to see pass completion and giving the ball away between Fortune / Kent / Murphy. Yes Kent and Murphy did lots of stepovers and ran at defenders but it often came to nothing

Yeah agree with that. But it's a general criticism of Kent from the 3-4 times I've seen him play, rather than just on today's game.
I suppose a worry is teams will try and copy Blackpools approach, we've been quite lucky that teams have played fairly open against us and we've been able to create 8-10 decent chances a game.

I didn't think Chesterfield, Shewsbury, Crewe or Southend were particularly open tbf. They all tried to keep it tight but didn't do it as well as Blackpool did today.Yeah agree with that. But it's a general criticism of Kent from the 3-4 times I've seen him play, rather than just on today's game.
I suppose a worry is teams will try and copy Blackpools approach, we've been quite lucky that teams have played fairly open against us and we've been able to create 8-10 decent chances a game.

I didn't think those were anywhere near as defensive as Blackpool were today. Their fullbacks didn't cross the half way line, they constantly had 2 holding players.

Murphy and Kent were told to hug the touchlines. Probably to draw the 10 behind the ball away and leave gaps in the middle. Trouble is, Arma and co were left too isolated as a result. Mowbray had a gameplan, and today it didn't work. But at least he had a plan, which is more than most of our recent managers appear to have had...

Nah loads of times he could have moved it on quicker but just kept holding it, also there was a few times where he could have turned and crossed/shot/ran into space and he just remained with his back to goal.
Agree, he was so so frustrating today.

He was outstanding against Shrewsbury, if he can put in more performances of that level he will be a vital player over the season.
Lets hope today was just a blip for him.

I wish Murphy would use Stokes on the overlap, it must frustrate him to keep making the runs only to see Murphy cut in yet again. He's a good player but this is a weakness he should work on.

At times it looks like he has too much self belief and tries to do it all by himself. So many times he goes past 1/2 players and there's a chance to cross/pass but decides he wants to go past a 3rd. He just doesn't know when to release the ball, Kent has the same problem. It's one of Maddison's great qualities. Murphy has had a fair few loan spells and played in a higher league, he should have learned to release the ball better by now.

Cole and eagles coming st right time. Be nice to leavw Murphy and Kent on bench for a few games and bring them on vs tired legs in final 30 to 20 mins of some games
I agree with others rhat maybe play arms upfront for home games and keep fortune for starting spot in away games

Murphy and Maddison are polar opposites for me. Murphy can run and beat a guy but can't pick the moment to pass or the pass itself. Maddison reads the game beautifully but hasn't got the speed to match it. I think Maddison will end up having the better career but as more of a Beardsley, Le Tissier, Charle Adam type player.

It was frustrating today. Blackpool came to earn and point and they got it. They could have stolen all three with that second half chance their forward put wide when he should have buried it.
Armstrong looked fatigued and the movement of the side was just not there. Fleck was too deep and only came forward with the ball in the second half.
I think we missed JOB today for his running and busying himself around the midfield area. We had no one doing that today. Fortune is very good at holding it up but his distribution was delayed or lacked purpose. Playing with a target up top does not suit the team (at home at least) But Blackpool played well at what they did. At times they stiffled us out with 4 or even 5 players gathering around Armstrong at times. They did a job on us and did it well. We had our chances and should have converted a couple of them but today it never seemed like that would come and while Blackpool wasted time from the kick off we failed to be aggressive enough throughout.
But it's one of those you have to have and get over. We were not at all bad just lacking the extra gear today and that referee was determined to make strange decisions that just added to the malaise of the afternoon somehow...
Joe Cole's signing seems classic timing now and if his impact is what we think then we will stroll back into winning ways.

Let them try! I don't think many will hold up as steadfastly as Blackpool did y'day.
