Not sure if it's just me, but encountered one for the very first time on Sunday evening and I know it may seem a little strange to some, but it just didn't feel right at all ... hard to put into words, but I just found it all really embarrassing and degrading and it just made me feel uncomfortable. It seemed all so anti-social.
It came about because my daughter had a friend over for a sleepover and it was getting late and they were hungry, but both in their pyjamas and dressing gowns.
The friend wanted to go to McDonald's (which I dislike greatly anyway), so rather than take them into the restaurant in their night clothes, we decided to use the drive thru.
As I waited, it occurred to me that people may use this means of obtaining food all the time I sat there in the car and just felt uncomfortable and almost felt the need to tell everyone we encountered (mainly just intercom voices) the reason why we were reduced to doing what we were doing. Felt like I had to make excuses.
Can understand if circumstances are as such that sometimes it is almost a necessity because of timing and being in a rush etc etc., but it all just seemed so lazy and I hated the lack of interaction.
I want to experience stuff. I like to walk into places, interact with the staff, sit down and eat and talk to the people I'm with, face to face, while we're eating. I just want to interact and be a human. This just seemed to my mind to be anything but a human experience. The restaurant was right there. The person I was talking to was just behind a wall on the other side. It just seemed so alien and odd to me.
Anyone else feel the same? Or do people just like them and value the easiness and the simple accessibility of it all?
Maybe a massive overreaction on my part, but I just wouldn't ever want to do it again.
So, how do people feel about drive thru's in general? Guessing it's only McDonald's, Burger King and KFC who have this sort of thing, right?
