Joe cole signing (3 Viewers)

So after the match yesterday Mowbray said cole didn't play as it wasn't the type of match for him but that he'll play on Tuesday so come down and see joe cole

This along with comments such as we need more fans to attend so we sign a loan defender to replace Reda has now made me very cynical about the cole signing. Has it just been a PR stunt?

On the subject of attendances please can I make an appeal for fans to make the effort to go if they can. This is our best chance to achieve something in a generation, the way I see it the balls in our court now. We are in a break even situation and have put the best team together we can with the money we have. To keep us there and even move into the auto's we need to attend in numbers.

Ps great support yesterday folks, it actually felt like the fans support 2nd half was having an effect on the team, which encouraged the fans which encouraged the team etc ... What a feeling

Don't call mowbray a liar I say. Cole will play Tuesday. And I agree with manager that barnsley will be a better game for him.

Not sure I'm going to that one though so bit gutted not to see cole

Your post looks like pr.

Hopefully more people will start attending, equally I hope those attending can stay in their seats for more than 20 mins without making me stand up so they can go to the toilet.

Do you think whatever deal we have with Villa is a £ per game he is in the squad deal?

If so and he wasn't going to start him, and didn't see him coming on off the bench to change the game due to the pace we have in the squad, TM took the gamble that we were not going to be chasing the game in the second half....

Or maybe he is just injured, but if he isn't injured that's the only scenario that makes any sense...

According to the Wall yesterday, the reason JC was not playing he had a slight knock.
I had my ticket for yesterday, woke up in the morning crippled with gout. Agony. Gutted I missed the game. She who needs to be obeyed has given me permission to go Tuesday. Bless her.

I don't care if it is.
We get to see JC in a City shirt.
He will put bums on seats.
He might even win us games.
It's a win/win.

He was due to make his home debut y'day, yet less than 11,000 home supporters flocked to witness. If we were to sign Jesus Christ, Elvis and Ali Bongo we'd only get a higher turnout if ticket prices were lowered to £5. Sadly, even at 4th place in this div we are where we are with our level of support.

Win on Tuesday we're 3rd. We have the 3rd highest average attendance in the league. Seems fair if you take it out of recent contact. It's also up on last year IIRC.

Yup. And also I suspect we all hope we keep going, but I doubt the percentage who are *convinced* we will is up much yet.

If we don't dip by the end of January, and manage to have a half reasonable cup run, am sure the crowds will gallop up come the end of the season.

And if it's good football... they're more likely to stay next season, too.

They'll be back as promotion draws nearer, no hierarchy just a choice they're making at the moment.

A lot of time spent on this forum and other media about why people are still staying away but the truth is that we've never been that well supported in the modern era, have owners that lots still don't trust and currently are in the third tier of the game. We can over analyse or we can enjoy it and accept that if and when we are at a higher level, the numbers will increase.

Oh I don't believe it'll keep going. That's being a City fan for you, so you can sort of understand.

You could feel it yesterday at 2-0 but games like that will go some way to beating it. But you don't overturn a decade of shit in 3 months.

A decade? You're younger than I thought shmmeee or have a selective memory about the previous two decades, the odd few games apart :)

Cole would have struggled yesterday at the intensity Peterborough came out with.

Hopefully Tuesday we will be more dominant and have more control of the match which should suit Cole well

I make you correct on this . thought he only wanted to play football again ? why should the Peterborough game be any more difficult than the Barnsley game ?? he was a fine payer in his day but , is now finished . if he was still any good , he'd be playing for Villa . too injury prone . let's move on from this Cole ''hype''

Just because we have him does not mean he should play every game (though I have a suspicion that was part of the agreement). But TM says he was injured. He probably could not have played in both games anyway even if he was fit. Let's assess the Cole situation after he completes his short loan stay.

There were only 18,900 at The Blues yesterday and they were playing Wolves, who I believe would have took a few thousand,
So in reality our crowds are about right for where we are.

Lets get promotion and play Wolves ,Blues and the Vile and there are 3 games which will be 25,000 plus.......

It was televised -.we had less against them in the championship when televised

I said this in an older thread , irrespective of how well we are doing , we will rarely see above 13/14 k until the later stages of the season if we are looking odds on , and then bam sheffield united last game will be huge .
When are people going to realise that supporters genuinely dont attend because they grew up all their lives watching cov play man utd , liverpool and arsenal , then wolves , derby and leeds , and they simply dont want to watch league 1 football against little teams .
Jie cole will not alter much at all ..only promotion will

Moral of the story is , this is our fanbase currently ..11-13 k .

Covrock - Do you take anything for the gout? I used to suffer badly with it until I saw a consultant who prescribed Allopurinol. It has transformed my life. No symptoms at all for almost 3 years now.

Older fans on here will remember low crowds at Highfield Road until Jimmy Hill's halcyon era and then we were averaging 28,000 in the Third Division where we are now. Success brings with it excitement and a feel good factor, but I'm surprised we're not getting more at the Ricoh now seeing we're going so well. Then again when we got back in the game yesterday in the second half it sounded like the Arena was packed full with City fans !

And they were top 6 on a good run playing a derby. what position were we in?
Or are you saying we are not the only team who's fans are Fickle there are others?

Oh and I believe we have no derbies.

Joe Cole was signed as a PR stunt????/.....Rubbish. Do you really think that TM would have gone along with that? He sees JC as a positive effect upon our fist team squad and someone who can deliver a few good performances along the way.

Grendel, I have checked and Coventry v Wolves\Birmingham has never been televised on English TV (since 2001). Neither home or away. Stop talking rubbish again.

Yes I remember being disappointed at our crowds at Highfield road in the 80's and 90's but that was the level of our support and it still is.

I' ve been to two home matches and two away matches this season, it cost me an average of about £150 per home game from where I live in the north east. but I'm enjoying this season just like I did in the early sixties. Already booked my hotel for the Gillingham match. I guess there is a lot like me old timers that are really enjoying this season. Keep it going.
