Is our contracted squad a concern (6 Viewers)

Title says it all..
After yesterday's game I came away thinking how little we created and how much we missed our loan players.
We are massively relying on them at the minute which is great in some ways we have them, but massively concerning that our own players simply aren't good enough apart from the odd couple..
I was thinking if we got promotion we would need serious investment in the squad all over the park because very few of our players could cut it in the championship my views yesterday there was 2 and that was Jim obrien (some don't rate) and John fleck.
This is a massive concern for me and seemingly very little money avalaible would it be good to go up...

Yes, put reda back in and its stronger. We need a dominant cb which we haven't got. The midfield isn't too bad but then the forward line is mediocre at best. We need to take points now.

Jim O'brien has been fantastic all season, he drags the team through and we we're a far worse side without him, and he is in my opinion the best suitor to captaincy, more so than Johnson. Fleck for me hasn't been stand out and he can on occasion be greedy and makes stupid challenges to get back at players when he's annoyed

I do agree we'd need investment but a lot of league 1 teams get promoted with a lot of loan players, and I really do think that come this time next year if we are in the championship we'll be seeing a lot of our contracted players playing at a good standard.

Yep, agree with that. We could do wih at least one of our own with a bit of striking potency about them.

Reda is out for the season so you can't really count him for this season.
our problem is our contracted squad is very small and some were made professional to make up the numbers.

Is our contract squad 'very' small? Surely it's no smaller than most teams in our league.

What other club in our league would gave been able to put out a side of a similar quality as we did on Saturday with 9-10 players unavailable?

Not shit but some are mediocre at best, others are clearly not good enough for this league yet.

It was far better quality than 90% of the other clubs in our league would have put out with a similar number of players unavailable.

So did they all then play their strongest team or did they use other squad players?

It depends whether they had 9-10 players unavailable or not. We did and still played what on paper looks a strong enough team. We've played much weaker teams in the JPT and got results.

We have a Division 3 budget. So we have mainly Division 3 players. Nearly all of our players are on a 1 year contract. And this is good news if we get promoted. TM would do the same again and keep the players that he thinks is good enough. Then he would look at who is available to fill in the gaps. We wouldn't be left with lots of players not good enough for the step up.

Strong on paper what does the mean?
Who said they were strong enough?
At the end of the day if our squad was as good as some make out we would not need any loan players.

But all squads in league one, league two and most of the championship are supplemented with loan players. That's the nature of the football league.

You know full well what strong enough on paper means.

Which is stronger Saturday's team or following 2 teams where we managed to be league 2 opposition in the JPT?

Well obviously not the current one.
As for loan players the question was are our contracted players good enough?

The answer is obviously not as we have to supplement them with loan players, and when these players are not playing we look a poor side.
Or do you believe we were good on Saturday?
we do have good players just not a good squad.
Reda out no one to replace him
AA out no one to replace him
Kent out no one to replace him
RCC out no one to replace him (most would say).

I wish we did and I do understand the situation, doesn't mean I have to like it.
Just some believe that we a good enough squad to cope all season with the injuries and suspensions we are bound to have.
Needs sorting out fast before we start falling as I like where we are now.

We've won both away league games when are loans were missing.

Looks pretty strong to me, the only player missing from that line up who walks into that team is Armstrong.

No I thought we were shite on Saturday and was one of the people on here that were pissed off. That's not because the team that was put out wasn't good enough to win a game of football, that was because too many had a poor game

How many teams can replace their best centre back like for like? Even man city can't adequately replace Kompany when he's injured. We'd have been ok if Willis hadn't been out too. Ricketts started the season as in as Centre back, Marin has been brilliant since he's come back in but we do need a big lump to come in.

We have won the 2 league games without AA. He is a massive loss and I was in here saying how we will struggle if we lose him. How many teams can replaced a 30 goal a season striker? I think we'd have been far more dangerous had Tudguy been fit.

As for Kent who has also played well, you're forgetting Lamieres was first choice at the beginning of the season and was part of the team that won 3 out of scoring for fun, he has scored and got assists this season.

RCC is better than Burge but that had no bearing on the match.

I am also concerned about the potential loss of AA in RK will have on our promotion chances, but I don't share the view that the squad is that poor or poorer than the rest of our league.

You are never allowed to be concerned, never

You are never allowed to be confident. Ever.

I was confident that TM would bring in the right players although other clubs were signing players and we were not. I got shot down by some for my views.

I was confident that we would be a top 6 side this season and with a bit of luck top 2. I got shot down by some.

I was confident that Armstrong would score goals in this division. I got shot down by some.

I was confident that although we had a small squad we would get results with players out. I got shot down by some.

I could go on. But there is no need to. I have already said enough to get shot down by some.

You said Jennings was a great player?

Should have been shot for that!

I'm not that bothered by it (yet), I'd have taken two league wins if it came with a cup exit still. Still getting the results despite shortcomings is the sign of a successful team, if not a dominating one. At this level most if not all teams are boosted by loans from the big cheeses I'd have thought.

why are you concerned about losing RK? just few weeks ago you were saying how loans should only come in if they are better than what we already have and you were mentioning RK as an example

Yet still not good enough to beat a s**t team like Northampton!

Yes, Chelsea had a shite team out when league one Bradford knocked them out last season.

Northampton players wanted it more, and we played poorly.

That team would not keep you in the championship not a chance in my opinion !

Everyone saying about reda Johnson do people think he would be stand out in the championship I don't ... A lot of strikers will have a field day against him and Martin in that league .

A few also missing the point saying we had 9 missing that includes loan players who no doubt could cut it in the league above.. I'm asking about our contracted players

Few teams use only contracted players in the lower divisions so it seems a needless panic.

Agree. I think we could and should replace Burge, Finch, Thomas, Phillips for starters. Pointless haven't "squad" players if they aren't good enough when they have to step up to the plate.

Not shit but some are mediocre at best, others are clearly not good enough for this league yet.

Absolutely, all teams in the lower leagues rely on loans.
