Really enjoyed first few days, but they’ve been long. I started at 5am today. I’ve been meeting everyone - from the kitman to the owners.
You read the paper and know the history of club, but a lot of it doesn’t seem to ring true to me, certainly not anymore. It’s a challenging job, a job in football like so many jobs where you have a budget model decided by the Football League and you have to produce a winning team within that model.”

The football side of the club in very good hands, and the appointment of Mark Venus a very good decision.
Coventry City is a club that’s had its ups and downs, but right now, is in a very healthy state.

No, but making sure club is financially stable is. We need to be prepared and we know better than many what can happen when clubs spend money they don’t have. We have learned our lesson.”

Coventry City is part of this community. We’re here to entertain. Tony will say football is an entertainment business. We want to bring people to the stadium. Financial problems of the club change as you move up the divisions. Constraints change and we would have to adjust. It’s a dilemma I’d like to solve as that means we would be in the Championship.”

’ll explore future at Ricoh Arena.
We are still learning the facts and learning the issues. It’s important to understand we need a home, every club needs a home. Supporters want it and the Football League wants us to have a home.
Everyone wants us to have a home.
Where that will be, I don’t know.”

It needs to be a home we can use in a way that helps the football club. Ruling out a deal at the Ricoh would be silly. If Wasps say come here rent free for 10 years, that would be silly. It’s unlikely they would do that, but there are a lot of shared interests with Wasps. Of course we will talk to them.”

Are you CCFC’s fairy god mother?

Most club’s are trying to find that. We are trying to avoid mistakes of the past.
Unless we are winning games, there’s nothing to sell, no money to be made for us.
Management side of club is really critical. Some clubs have learnt this, others are spending money they don’t have.”

We have a modest playing budget, we have to find creative smart ways of spending that money. Mark Venus’s job is working that budget.”

Why Coventry City?

Why Coventry? Coventry City FC is one of those great clubs in English football history.
A town and a club that’s seen some real highs and lows.
It’s a club with huge potential in a great city. What’s not to like about Coventry City?
It’s a city that wants to embrace it’s football club again.
It wants and needs a club.

Great manager and terrific squad'

There’s a bad history and nobody can make that go away. It was in trouble before the current owners. Look at what we do, not what people tell you in the pub. We have a great manager, great technical director, a squad that’s terrific that our finances allow.
We are winning games, we’re one point off promotion places.
Embrace that, forget the rest.

Can you guarantee we'll be at Ricoh next season?

We need our supporters. This is our stadium, where we sing together. That’s what we need that stadium to be. It has to be in Coventry.
Can I reassure supporters what is going to happen? No. But what I intend is this club will play in Coventry.
It’s like when you are looking for a home, it needs to fit your needs and when you have that you have your home.

What I know is that there has been on-going work on a new stadium, to identify a site.
The mistake that has been made in the past is making people think it is imminent and ready to go.
That was unrealistic.
We are working hard behind the scenes. ”

Any meetings planned with Wasps?

I will meet them, of course I will.
We’ll have a conversation about the stadium.
They are our partners in this and I’m looking forward to getting to know them.
I need to know who they are and they have to understand our needs and I their needs.
Just understand each side’s interests and that conversation will take part over time and I look forward to that.
There’s nothing that is impossible to overcome.
There are issues we can tackle together.”

How he went from goalkeeper to analyst...

I wasn’t a very good goalkeeper!
I enjoyed playing very much but realised my life was not going to be as a pro footballer.
I went to university, but was pulled back into football through consultancy work.
I grew up near Cologne, we followed Cologne and Gladbach, I used to go to their games.
In England, the club I’m closest to is Exeter City.
I’m close to these guys, and have worked with them. My boy has trained with their youth team.”

NOT here to analyse

Haven’t been asked by Mark Venus to talk about statistical analysis of players.
But, I’m more than happy to talk about it if asked.

Plenty from Mr Anderson on a new stadium site, then.
Of course, Coventry City’s owners must submit plans for a new stadium by next month or risk missing out on the club’s preferred location.

Read more on that here. Stadium.jpg

Sounds like a mixture of Waggott and Fisher.

He comes across well but that is only to be expected given his credentials.

The key thing I take from what he's said is that he seems to be starting from the right place. Nothing was said to rub anybody up the wrong way, not something you could ever say about TF. It seems evertime TF opens his mouth someone gets pissed off and for me it always comes across as the point he opened his mouth in the first place.

I've not picked that up in anything that I've read from what CA has said. That in itself is refreshing but I'll wait and see what he actually does before passing judgement but admit it's a positive start.

It sounds to me like he's going to come in and look over everything. What we need to happen to be honest. Look at all the options and work out the best way to move forward.

His reputation seems to suggest he knows what he's doing and I can't see why he would risk that to be a fall guy for SISU so hopefully it won't be too long before we get some details from him of the plan of action.

I can't help but wonder if he's here on a short term contract to get he club ready for sale and once his contract has come to an end the club goes on the market.

We are Coventry City. Things don't normally go right for us.

Without wishing to sound terribly rude or bossy, if you're going to lift our work directly from the CT website (especially when we've committed what little time and resources we have to covering the event) would you mind at least incorporating a link to the original content?

It helps to keep us in a job you see.

Link here for reference: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...ws/recap-coventry-citys-new-managing-10421383

Many thanks.

So the more links we post the more cups of tea you have to make?

Good point that. If you'd have pmd me I would've put it in the thread title, but you didn't so I won't.

No problem. Just better to deal with these things informally if we can in the first instance.

I'll let the editor know.

Informally?

I don't think he posted it to try and claim anything, just forgot to post the link (which is on the other threads a few times).

Let's just hope you have a link back to here on every article where content has been lifted ;):p

I'm feeling far more conciliatory attitude. It looks like Prof Anderson has a more open remit, he isn't ruling out staying at the Ricoh over a longer term.

Is Mr Fisher still tasked to identify an alternative site to the Ricoh, I suspect he is having no joy which may be why the tune has changed.

Anderson is certainly better at dealing with the public than Timmy, so far he has made a good impression on me.

I presume the legal action continues, which is regrettable, if it involves Wasps won't help the relationship with them.

BTW, saw this after I wrote above, guess I agree.

Just written up piece with new CCFC man for publication tomorrow. Came across very conciliatory and showed desire to look forward not back.

He still says we need our own ground long term.

And I said longer term, not forever, but I'm thinking it might easily take 10 years to sort everything out, in that time it is possible the strategy would change again.

After all it was over 2 years since a land deal for a new ground was supposed to be imminent.

True, it is going to take 6-10 years, and that would happen whether Anderson was here or not.

I can only see the strategy changing if wasps are forced to sell at least half of ACL.

Not saying you, but some will read into "long term" as forever, just wanted to point out that the new stadium is still on the cards and one the "5 Things we've learned today" on CT.

As we all know you don't sell at the bottom of the cycle. From what I can make out getting into the Championship is pretty much the top of the cycle for SISU. Its been made clear they won't put any more money in so a push for the PL is not going to happen. We also know that, in our current situation, being competitive in the Championship would be a struggle. I think most also accept that there's not much chance of a new stadium anytime soon.

Wouldn't be surprised to see us sign a 10 year contract with Wasps, with a break clause in it. If we then go up can see SISU looking to sell up. They won't get close to getting their money back but I think it will be the best time for them to go.
