Looks like he's running in treacle at times but he's improved no end, fair play to him.

He is slow but manages to outpace a lot of full backs when going forward.

He proves that there are players in non-league who can cut it up here.

To be fair, their right back was quick as well as strong. He's not that slow.

I think people forgot he came through boltons academy and did make a first team appearance prior to being released. So he does come with some pedigree.

He's been our signing of the season. It's not just his own game he keeps an arm around the players around him which is a real bonus when you have so many young players in your squad. It was a wise move by TM signing him and an even smarter move giving him the captains armband.

One thing for sure, I bet that Swindon are kicking themselves that they didn't retain his services this season.

This is a thread about Chris Stokes, not Sam Ricketts.....

Oh dear. Have a read of today's match thread to learn about our players!

I really like stokes. One of those players that show you don't have to have the most skill providing you put the effort in. You can see in his performances and celebrations that he wants to be here and is thankful of the gamble we took on him

He lost ball in feet prior to 4th goal but his strength allowed him to carry on..brilliant cross too

I will be smug and remind everyone that I said in pre season we should keep him because I liked what I saw tail end of last season

In the summer when fans were talking about players to release he was 50/50 with us lot. Mowbray said he liked the fact he was a listener that was willing to learn and he has come on leaps and bounds. No one seems to be harping on any more about the need for a new left back which is the ultimate compliment to the bloke. Thankfully the budget has been directed towards the areas that count. I must admit though I'm still baffled how we can have the squad we have on less of a budget than last year

People wrote him off as a forest green reject because they thought it looked bad against sisu not spending money.

It was Hockaday who recommended him.

I'm guessing that is what he meant when he said one of the staff from Forest Green went to Cov, its just worded badly to make it look like Hockaday moved from Forest Green to Coventry which wasn't how it played out.

tbf it's not that outrageous a rumour as their had to be something going on behind the scenes at Forest Green which meant he wasn't getting into their team. As long as Mowbray is happy and Stokes keeps putting in the performances then no problems, could have just been a personality clash between Stokes and coach/management which happens.

He got slated instantly but I saw enough in his debut at Sheffield Utd to tell me he was good enough. The only thing he struggled with was fitness.

From what I've seen of Stokes, he is a player who makes the most out of his ability. He always plays to the best of his ability.

There's players out their with more ability but who don't consistenly play to there max ability and constantly play below what they are capable of, can't say that about Stokes.

Mowbray is a miracle worker!

Was fantastic yesterday and seems to be getting better with each gane in a side full of confidence.

Seems Stokesy has got his head screwed on nowadays, hence his desire and willingness to be 'coached' and to actually dig in and utilise his quite obvious talent.

We all love a bargain, and I believe he's enjoying his football with us.

Chris Stokes is proof that there are gems out there in non league land as we are seeing at high level with Jamie Varney. We need to go out and try to dig some out as we have done many times before and we supporters need to give players the time to settle and progress along with young academy players given a chance and not expect an immediate Llionel Messi

Fantastic signing. Any idea what happened at Forest Green. Assume he must have had a falling out with someone for them to let him go.

I liked Stokes from the off, and whilst he has definitely improved this season, I always thought he was pretty decent last season. Good in the air, has a good left foot, strong in the challenge, comfortable on the ball, and always show a real willingness to get forward, what is there not to like. For me the jury is far more out on Willis, who although still very young always to me looks uncomfortable with the ball, hopefully he can come back from injury and develop into a player we all hoped he would become.
But for me Stokes along with Fleck who has been a revelation this year have been 2 of our real unsung heroes this year.

Willis is a CB and it shows, I think it's unfair to judge him not in his natural position. Like Harries though, I get the impression Mowbray is reluctant to put young players in at CB.

I think Stokes is my favourite player. I haven't seen him have a bad game this season. He's always a 7/10. Exactly what you want at full back.

I really though he was going to be our weakest link this season, Oh how wrong I have been, really impressed with him this season, fair play to him, happy to be proved wrong in this case.

If you're going to use Wiki to pretend you know about the player being discussed at least make sure you link to the player in the title.

Also Troll Tip of The Day - occasionally log onto the match day thread - it looks like you have an interest in the club.

There are many trolls on here but Tony defiantly isn't one of them......

That's funny, he said the only reason he comes on the forum nowadays is to wind people up.
I'd say that was trolling.

He does seem very keen on LAST though

Shows how little we know as fans on occasion. He has done really well and slotted nicely into the team.
