If you were offered the playoffs now would you take it with a wembley apearence or would you hold out for the chance of autos ?

Err, but if you 'hold out' for the auto's you're going to end up in the play-offs anyway aren't you!

Automatic. I thought at the start of the season the play offs were a chance. Seeing us now, automatic has got to be the aim.

I expect playoffs as the minimum now 5 weeks ago I would have bit your hand off for 6th place.

Autos has to be the aim this leagues crap full of inconsistent sides more than seasons past!

I think Wigan will win the league personally, think they'll throw the cash around in Jan.
So 2nd place in 28 games would do me just fine.

I'd rather get guaranteed promotion than potentially get beat in a Wembley final.

I think its got to be autos. Never liked the playoffs as their a lottery. How can a team who finish 6th over the season be promoted over a team finishing 3rd with more points. Seems totally wrong and was only created for tv viewing reasons. If three can go up it should be the top three teams who over a season have shown their the best in the league not a team who got 10 points less

Playoffs is a brilliant idea, harsh on 3 sides yes but it's box office!

We have every chance of automatic promotion but there is a long way to go. As TM points out twice he has had teams top at xmas who don't even make playoffs. Keep playing like we did second half v Peterborough or first half yesterday and we should make top 2. A lot depends how we and others shuffle the pack come January. For me the way we are playing and the way TM is regarded will hopefully mean top quality loans will come if we lose any of the current crop.

Start of the season we would all have taken the playoffs for sure. Now, I'm going for automatic promotion.

Just have to hope TM can keep the on-loan players here or failing that, he's able to replace any with the same quality.

We've suffered enough over the years. Be nice not to have to suffer the stress & pressure of the playoffs.
(Though, I'm in dreamland just putting this in print)

Autos. My blood pressure won't cope with play-offs. Plus I don't want any chance of promotion coming to penalties given our record on those.

Autos obviously. I think this has to be the aim now. Why not? This is a poor league. Does any other top of the table team get done 4-1? No. Gillingham are a decent tout fit but no more. Certainly not top 2 material.

This is a clear chance here and we need to take it. I notice a lot of loans are up in Jan and that's going to be the difference between going up or not. If we keep Armstrong? Madderz comes back. Cole gets fit?

But how would the bandwagoners get a big day out of we go up automatically? ;)

I'll continue to hope for the play offs, but dream of the auto's. Mowbray mentioned yesterday he was at Middlesborough and top of the table at Christmas, yet finished outside the play offs come the end of the season, so I'll remain realistic :D

Would love to avoid the big lottery that is a play off final.......even if it would be a great day out

Man City yesterday?

1989-90 season Cov top the First Division for the first time. Admittedly it was only after 4 games, We lost 4-1 to Millwall who finish the season bottom. This was also the game Oggy came off injured with Speedie going in goal at half time being 3-0 down.

As Jim Brown says in "Coventry City the Elite Record" It took 106 years to get to the top and 44 seconds to slide off the summit.

The way we are playing at the moment, we look like automatic promotion material. But we all know that things can change very quickly when it's all going well. It would take a big decline for us not to even get into the top 6 though.

One reason I hope we get into the top 2 is that I dread to think what sort of chaos would happen with ticket distribution for semi-finals and Wembley, given the state of our ticket offices, both of which are manned by one less-than-enthusiastic woman. Unless the club could do a deal with Wasps, people could be queueing for days!

A few weeks ago I'd have said take the guaranteed play-offs, but with 37 already, even relegation form wouldn't see us far from play offs and I simply can't see that happening. Whatever the outcome of the season, it will be our most exciting right to the end.

I was there that day (away) and remember that game vividly. Went on a bus with the sky blue army from pool meadow. Herded in like cattle to the old den with police on all sides of us. Was utterly horrible day all round probably as many police as fans. Also remember singing "top for a minute, we were top for a minute"

I want to go to Wembley, and I back us to beat anyone likely to be in the playoffs, so I'd take the playoffs.

Though to go up as champions would be pretty special.

Disaster if we don't make play offs as a minimum.

37 points!!! After 18 games ....unbelievable....icing on the cake is the manner of accumulating the points best football we have seen in years.

28 games to go. Just over a point a game (1.1 pts) from now on in will see us at 70 points! Which yes although would be disasterous but would virtually almost guarantee 6th spot....

lol...when's the last time we were 20 points off the relegation spots! It's only November!

Keeping our feet firmly on the ground.

Fortune , lameiras, Tudgay, Maddison, all contracted players didn't get a kick yesterday. So even if one or two do back to their clubs. Clubs strength in depth to at the moment. Looks good. Autos.

We we fear no one!

Sorry but that's fucking stupid. It really is

Yup. I remember Derby narrowly missing out on autos, looked one of the best sides in the league and finishing third, pretty much battered QPR in the play off final, QPR scored with their only chance and Derby 2-3 seasons on are still waiting for promotion.

All about the loans really. How we wheel and deal will decide it

I agree. But Mowbray has shown far more ability in the market than any previous manager, so we have some reason for optimism on that score.

I was saying yesterday that it was funny the Gillingham fans had got so arsey about us having decent loan players. Nobody said a word when we had all manner of rubbish on loan. Even funnier that all our goals yesterday were scored by loan players!

Playoffs are a lottery. We could easily get knocked out the first round and then get fck all

Has to be autos and as champions, think they still play for the old 1st division champions trophy which I believe is the oldest
Trophy in football . Also the sound of Queen's " We Are The Champipn" ringing around the Ricoh just once is a personal dream

I Don't want to piss on any-bodies bonfire.....

BUT...

Tony Mowbray said last night on CWR. He doesn't want to get carried away with being top of the league, He remembers being top around his birthday (apparently today) before, but his team missed out on the play-offs finishing the season 7th.

I hope he has learned where he went wrong and ensures it doesn't happen again.

With this current squad + these existing loans = automatic promotion.

However I personally will judge where we finish with what happens in the January transfer window.

Oh come on ... we still need 13pts to be safe. How can you even think about playoffs?

What? OK, how about I put it this way.

I want to go up as Champions, but would rather win the playoffs than come second.

Wed still know we were 3rd best team in league

I'd prefer 1st or 2nd

Don't get me wrong i know what you.mean
I'd just prefer knowing we were up than gamble with the playoff jubilation
