He's been recalled from a non-league team, I can only assume this is covering for an absolute worst case scenario that we need a last minute keeper at the club on matchday. If there was anything more long-term with both Collins and Wilson we'd be getting an emergency loan before Bell plays

Makes you think that Wilson hasn't really recovered fully from his injury.

Yeah, I'm guessing he was the emergency sub at Sheffield United and would probably be Lampard's second keeper if fit.
Doesn't sound good for Dovin if we're bringing back a third keeper

There's been nothing to suggest Wilson is Lampards second keeper, its all fan fiction. The signs are he prefers Collins.

Collins would probably be my preferred keeper as well (just about), but isn't he out of contract in the summer and we've just given Wilson a new one?
Guess Wilson might be happier to be back up

Yeh as said above, he's got another year. My guess is Wilson is being kept as a full time third choice at this point. Whether the second choice remains Collins or whether we'll try and ship him for a small fee and bring in another is what remains to be seen.

don't read too much into this. we have to have 2 keepers in the squad for a game, and this is just to cover the scenario where collins or wilson get the squits the night before the game.

it's this, or jds covers in goal.

Since coming back from his injury, Wilson had been injured again (thigh) and only back in training for around 10 days. He was only added to the bench as a late call up being a senior player who had travelled, when Kitching was ill. Collins had trained as the number 2 and would have been the only keeper on the bench if Kitching wasn't ill, so it was right that he went on and should have been better prepared of the two.

Since then another week's training and both vying for the spot so it will be interesting to see who is selected to start on Saturday.

I get that but it felt a bit weird that Wilson got up to warm up.

Maybe as a late addition to the bench he hadn't done much/any pre-game warm-up so now he would be the next in line if Collins went off he needed to do a bit of stretching. Other thought was maybe they thought they'd test the injury with the warm up and decided he wasn't quite there.

Like all players on the bench he should be trying to convince the manager he is ready to go on if needed, goalkeeper or not. That is just basic professionalism - prepare to be called upon, let the manager make his decision, make sure you’re ready if he calls you, and if not, wish your mate good luck and sit back down. I’d much rather that than him be sat there with a face like a smacked arse looking disinterested.
