https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-69072640 If Labour don't stump up their ridiculous 35% pay demands, i hope the junior doctors give Starmer as rough a ride as they have given this past government. If they don't, it will appear to be a party-political stunt and they will lose support and respect.

Reform are of the opinion that the NHS needs the money to be spent better, not more of it. Some interesting proposals here NHS The flip-side is social care, which was taken out of central government/NHS funding streams by the Care Act 2014, and handed over to local authorities who are now...

Some really good points here. Thanks. And we are all unqualified, aren't we? Just trying to help each other out! I think the higher turnout favours the Conservatives because of the opinion polls missing the older population who might tend to be more likely to be Tory. For me, I struggle with...

I'm trying to find out what Reform and the SDP stand for in more detail before i decide which way to chuck my X. TBH, i'd never really realised the SDP still existed, until i saw a candidate declared in my constituency. "The SDP is a patriotic, economically left-leaning, and culturally...

JL Partners are a Tory thinktank. They started out as Theresa May's research team. Wouldn't trust any of JLP's data for a balanced view, but to my recollection YouGov's polls haven't been particularly accurate either. Thanks for the explanations about the methods used for polling, but i think...

Perhaps so, but saying he wanted to "dodge" paying 40% suggests he was doing something illegal!

    Probably better to say "avoid".

That is exactly how it should be - the question is whether building a shitload of 4 beds will bring the asking prices down or just make the builders richer? I hope it is the former (for your sake).

Another development in my village is a financial partnership between the district council and their "arms length" housing association to build a selection of smaller houses, for social rent, free-market rent and shared ownership sale. Proper council houses, at least in a proportion.

I think they try to put those sort of restrictive covenants in with new developments. Do i trust that they will work all the time? Not 100%

Well that would be a solution, but probably not an affordable one, unless you could recoup some massive amount of money spent on a pointless vanity project. Any thoughts? ;)

True - that is why low-cost homes need to be built nationwide to skew the available properties and their prices.

I don't know the economics of supply and demand in the UK housing market, but my genuine question is "Will building more houses inevitably mean that the overall housing market reduces in value?" You HAVE to start with building things that will sit at the bottom of the property ladder. Don't...

Aren't we always being told it's an ageing population? Wouldn't they be mad to ignore the views of almost one-third of the electorate (those over 65)? Don't they have a right to be included, no matter what benefits they might have had in their lives?

Anyone know what the latest data are regarding number of empty properties in England? I think it was about 600,000 but that was a while back. I don't know whether they include "under-used" in that figure. I think it might be a partial solution to the problem crisis, but would it have to be...
