Coventry City ground share with Coventry RFC at Butts Park Arena could be back on

Saying 'never' is a dangerous thing. Who would have even imagined Bournemouth would ever be in the Premier League when they beat Grimsby in 2009 to preserve their league status.

Coventry City ground share with Coventry RFC at Butts Park Arena could be back on

I'd like the club had a home it could call it's own and that it hadn't spent the entire club budget on building it. You only have to look at the example of the East Stand at Chelsea in the 1970s to see what a disaster over committing to building can be.

Coventry City ground share with Coventry RFC at Butts Park Arena could be back on

I believe something like the Union Berlin stadium is achievable on The Butts site. When it comes to thinking about a new football stadium I believe too many people have a fairly closed mind, they think of an outskirts of town bowl with lots of car parking. I believe we need to think...

Coventry City ground share with Coventry RFC at Butts Park Arena could be back on

There is standing and that does boost the capacity. I think Celtic are running a trial of railed seating (which is a way of operating safe standing that they have in Germany). Standing is already allowed in the third flight and if the Celtic trial is successful it may be that some standing...

Let's go with 'fan action' and build it with lego :D

Coventry City ground share with Coventry RFC at Butts Park Arena could be back on

If someone was developing the site they could avoid the mainline and use the existing (unused) siding for a rapid transit system to ferry fans to the railway station... monorail anyone :hilarious:

Coventry City ground share with Coventry RFC at Butts Park Arena could be back on

Anyone wanting to develop The Butts would - I did say it was a bit of fun. Imagine what a decent architect might come up with though, under pitch parking and a tight pitch surrounded by steeply banked stands. The problem is it will all cost too much.

Coventry City ground share with Coventry RFC at Butts Park Arena could be back on

I think you're right, there wouldn't be enough room for a main stand backing onto the main road. That's not to say there isn't enough room to build a stadium on that site though. The site is larger than the Union Berlin Stadium site (German second division) and that has a 22,000 capacity...

Big news tomorrow morning? Tuesday 20th September

It's only when you visit somewhere like Lokomotiv Stadium that you realise how poor a design the Ricoh actually is.

Big news tomorrow morning? Tuesday 20th September

The Dynamo Stadium has been demolished and Moscow Dynamo is playing at an arena in Khimki. The move to Khimki is supposed to be temporary, while a new stadium for the 2018 World Cup is being built at the former Dynamo Stadium site. On the subject of Russian football stadiums, take a look at...

Cov utd to play at Butts next season

But it wasn't the same stadium back in the 1960s, was it? In the 1960s the pitch was inside the cycle track and there was a tiny single stand. Also, earlier this year the council was seeking to prevent professional football being played at The Butts. Now a team that is aspiring to be a...

Cov utd to play at Butts next season

It's interesting that the statement from Coventry Rugby Club doesn't say how long the deal with Coventry United is for, just that it has been agreed in principle that the football club will be playing there next season. Once Coventry United play at the Butts a precedent for football being...

Questions over Coventry City's future met with wall of silence

The RFU and The Aviva Premership should be interested in the conduct of one of their members. If the Sky Blues are ultimately forced to move from the city and this can be attributed to Wasps not being willing to lease them time and space at the Ricoh Arena there will be the questions as to...

    Phone in

A ban on religious gestures on the pitch... Remember when the FA made it a booking offence for players to lift their shirts over their heads to celebrate scoring (Ravanlli style)? Ysrael Zuniga scored for us at HR and lifted his shirt and the ref ran up with his hand up to his pocket ready to...

    Frank Nouble is back

I've been to China and I'm not too sure where he was playing most recently will have been to Frank's liking. Initially, Frank was in Tianjin and I'm sure this wasn't too bad for him. Tianjin is a large city and a former 'Treaty Port' - it's quite modern and sophisticated there. Also...

    If no ground agreement

Well, there's more to this story than you suggest and the example of Brighton isn't directly comparable with the Sky Blues. One of the key things was what the owners of Brighton did and the reaction this prompted from the FA. The constitution of the club was altered by the key shareholders to...

    If no ground agreement

Your history of the Brighton and Hove Albion ground saga misses the point that the club was ultimately moved to Gillingham for the 1997-8 and 1998-99 seasons and that this move was allowed despite the fact there was no 'concrete evidence' of a plan to return the club to the Brighton and Hove...

    Seppalas House

Surely no thread about expensive houses and the Sky Blues can be complete without mention of Geoffrey Robinson's humble abodes? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think our former Chairman has a portfolio of properties that makes Seppala's home look like a slum. As I recollect Robinson has...

    Alternatives to the Higgs?

I think you're right about the potential for the universities enhancing their reputations. Personally, I think Coventry University (which already offers sports science and physiotheraphy courses and has an underused set of playing fields) is a more likely partner.
