He didn't drop to left back in those games either, he played as a wide cb who overlapped much like Chris Wilders used to when they had O'Connell and Basham. Attacking shapes change to defensive shapes after the transition phase. If we buy someone like Coady you end up with him being in a 3...

2 games? by the Derby game Rudi was playing as a normal lb in defence hence him being in a left position when he played that awful back pass

it's no where near the same, apart from 2 games that had Rudoni at LWB we defended with a 5 and played full backs as wingbacks so there was no back 4

Well history shows he is very unlikely to play a back 5 so why buy/loan someone who can only play in a 5? Also we recruited for a 4 so if he is going to play what suits the squad best then once again it is a back 4.

Match Thread Millwall FC - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 7th Dec

That's why we were changing to a 4-4-2 in defence which should be more solid than a base 3-4-2-1 system as the wing backs in the 3-4-2-1 can get caught too far field. It'll take time but there are reasons why teams what that shape. We just need to practice it as on Saturday the midfield where...

    Transfer Rumour Kai Wagner

Yeah, the issues is the lack defensively ability. We need to use systems like that as before we seems to stick to the base formation which would mean a) we get overloaded b) we create no overloads

    Transfer Rumour Kai Wagner

No, put tactics played by elite teams filter down to other teams. Out of possession it's a back 4 with another bank of 4 in front of them. The issue sadly is the lack of defensive ability of our left backs.

  18. David O'Day

    Transfer Rumour Kai Wagner

no, it's how modern elite teams set up Liverpool, Arsenal, City, United etc all are in a a 3-2-5 when in possession.

A left back that doesn't seem great at defending, just what we need. Also if we stick to the system Lampard brought in for Cardiff then the left back isn't going to attack much.
