    Xmas run in

Hoping we give Pompey a good battering to really get the players confidence up for the Xmas to New Year. On the topic of this run-in, I back us to get a 3 or 4 wins out of the 5, including today. Millwall will be a tough fixture at home as will Cardiff, but both games are winnable. Plymouth and...

Sakamoto needs to up his output to stay in the team imo. Wright and EMC are scoring and assisting too much to not play both players. In my view, Simms will break into the team because he’s a better player than Bassette. If Wright was back tomorrow (he’s not) then I’d play Sakamoto-Wright-EMC...

In all the games we’ve been better, even WBA where we were unlucky to lose in the manner we did because we created good enough opportunities for an equaliser. Even the first half v Cardiff looked better.

It may be an unpopular opinion, but in the small sample of the 4 games, we look leagues better under FL than Robins.

Good win today and we were good value for it, credit to the management for this. However, it’s not all roses because defensively we look fragile which was epitomised by the handful of attacks Hull had. I like Bassette and don’t want to criticise a young player that I believe will be a star…...

Our errors are just loaded in defence. Whenever Hull had a shot on target, I felt like we were going to conceded. At the time of Hull’s opener, we’d conceded something like 13 goals from 16 shots on target! From the second half I believe Hull had 2, maybe 3 shots on target.

    It’s a new day it’s a new dawn

Lampard is having a good impact on the squad and they clearly buy into his methods. This Xmas to new year period will be the making of our season because we’ve got 4 winnable games. My optimism is that Lampard as a big name will bring in players we otherwise wouldn’t have attracted under Robins...

    Ephron Mason-Clark

Amazing what a little bit of backing can do for a player. Get Simms a few games and I am convinced he’ll get in the goals again. From there, a front 3 of Wright-Simms-EMC and we’re laughing. EMC has played less games, yet has more goals and assists than most of our squad. Only Rudoni has more iirc.

Before Hull’s goal, I said if we lose to this lot, we’re in trouble. For all of the faults with our team, we do not make nearly as much basic errors on the ball. That said, our defending at times was still under par against a poor team. We need support in midfield and defence.

    Palmer fee.

Which is a steal, even if it left us short. If we can reinvest that in Jan, we’ve played Hull.

I don’t think we scrapped it. We should’ve scored 4 or 5 and they scored one sucker punch chance. In reality, we battered them and the scoreline doesn’t show that.

I’ve had enough of this team. We’re like a boxer with a glass jaw, KO’d as soon we take a punch. Embarrassing, Hull are shit so if we lose this, we’re in trouble.

    Musings of a fan

In most sports, the decisive moments in matches is the last ‘quarter’ because that’s when people get tired and mistakes happen. The most exciting brand of football to me is winning football. It’s nice having 60-70% on target and 2-3 xG but if we don’t win, I’m not as happy as a dross 1-0 win.

I’d much prefer a striker who scores goals and doesn’t press well. We don’t have a player on the pitch who’s scored more than 2 goals in the team today and we’re 20 games in. Yet, we’ve got BTA and Simms on the bench.

It’s also his 4th game in charge, FL is still figuring it out his best team and places are still up for grabs. If Simms comes off the bench and scores he’ll be back in in the starting lineup. I believe in a season or two, Bassette will be our best player. Right now, he’s just a bit too raw in...

Primarily, he was at fault. Every goal is a collective failure and whilst WBA got to Thomas and Lati too easily, it came down to a basic error from Lati that put Grant through on goal. If he couldn’t get the ball we needed him to foul the man. That’s why he’s owned it. Lampard was right to say...

Take the emotion out of the result… I certainly left that game thinking we were the better team who created the better chances. On another day, we don’t lose that game and a draw was a fair result. Hearing WBA fans talk us down annoyed me because WBA didn’t create any meaningful chances barring...

Yes, I agree but take it with a pinch of salt that you don’t want to publicly admit we’re in trouble. I want the manager and players to show confidence at this stage of the season.

    Our 'Deck'

For whatever reason, we couldn’t sign Browne and Worrall. You add those two to our team and we’re gonna be doing a lot better. Every team needs strong leader and in hindsight, would’ve kept Kelly around. Of course we didn’t plan to not sign a CM.

    Our 'Deck'

100% I do think Lampard needs to get Simms and Kitching back in the side. Rudoni at RM ahead of Sakamoto for Hull may make sense because there’s definitely a tactical instruction for Sakamoto to play more narrowly which I’m not sure suits him.
