Match Thread Coventry City vs Middlesbrough Play off Semi final 1st leg Match Thread -Sunday 14th May

Despite the pretty cagey / crap game, I loved every second of today. Our season really should already be over so anything that happens on Wednesday is a bonus. To go into it still with a fighting chance is good enough for me. What a season it’s been. PUSB

Match Thread Coventry City vs Middlesbrough Play off Semi final 1st leg Match Thread -Sunday 14th May

The last time we were in the playoffs we drew the home tie despite being marginally second best. Away leg will be 4-1 with Biamou scoring 2 after being brought in as an emergency loan. Heard it here first.

“I never want to see him in a Coventry shirt again” isnt exactly a glowing endorsement. As for Godden, he spent the day having to press as though he’s Callum O’Hare and win balls in the air as though he’s a target man (which he didn’t do well, understandably). His game is based on sitting on...

Don’t get the Eccles hate. Thought he was combative and did well in there. Fadz was superb and an 8 minimum in my opinion. I think people are marking Hamer against his own ridiculous standards. Just because he wasn’t a 10 today doesn’t mean he wasn’t still brilliant - he was. So many...

    Confused

Completely off topic on such an important day but this just popped up on my Facebook feed and has really confused me. Isn’t the guy clapping in the stands wearing the 19/20 home kit?

    Your plan for tomorrow

Up early and just about to leave for a round of golf for a mates male equivalent of a baby shower (worlds gone mad) then straight to the ground. Unfortunately means won’t get much prematch atmosphere 😫

    Ex Player Watch

Pleased for Jodi, he’s had such a horrendous time and must’ve taken huge mental strength to even continue his career. Whatever happens for him now he’s played a big part in the return of a historical club back to the football league. Scoring a promotion winning pen at Wembley, at whatever level...

    So incredibly proud

I honestly thought the season was doomed. Remember how everything was just going wrong. Injury to O’Hare day before season started, stadium issues, matches postponed, keeper howlers, blown leads, cup exits.. how it then became our most successful championship season ever is mind boggling.

    The £500 deal

We went for it (me + 3 mates). The idea of winning that play off final and getting a free premier league season ticket was just too much. The reality is that next season will probably be a championship relegation battle that we’ve paid £500 to witness but hey ho

    Gyokeres to West ham?

In fairness they were both a move to the championship before prem. He’s already just scored 20 in the champ. I still don’t think he has the cleverest footballing brain or cleanest finishing but he has pace and power which counts for a lot. Will be interesting to see if that is still as...

    Nothing to fear

I honestly think our fans play a huge part in this too tbh. Other teams will also have big numbers but they don’t have the noise we create. We have always done well in the important games since Robins’ return.

Kelly / Sheaf and Eccles / Allen

Think stick with what we’ve been doing. Sometimes being in form / in the groove is worth more than being slightly more talented. I like Sheaf but his last start was the first half of Blackburn (shudders).

    Stock take

It’s been phenomenal. Every season I think that the progress must finally be peaking, Robins finds a way to take us on another level. What a job the man and staff around him have done.

A view from Callum Doyle's home

Can’t see why Man City would send him back to us (unless we went up). He’s already proved himself here and at this level. I think they’ll want one more new test for him and then he’ll be in their own squad season after

    Assuming we don’t go up

Both would be fine as 4th and 5th choices for me. Can’t see us getting much better as “stand-ins”

    Currently playing best 11

Fair comment. Have to admit to being surprised at how well Murphy has done

    Currently playing best 11

As we have a week to wait, something a bit different to think about. What would your starting 11 be out of anyone who has ever played for us that’s still currently playing. (You can have them in their prime whether that form came before or after their stint with us). I went 4-3-3 GK- K...

    Callum Doyle

He is similar in style to Stones. Left footed, ball playing defender. No reason why he couldn’t play for City if he carries on his development (and Pep stays at city)
