    Current Championship xG table

Most of our goals this season have been gifts. The two goals we conceded against Derby was just amateurish. All the hallmarks of an inexperienced and naive team.

We also have an inexperienced team ourselves so if anything, we need to get a couple of older players in steady the ship.

When has the manager not taken the fall? How would getting rid of the recruitment team, Dr Roberts or the kit nan impact the product that’s actually on the field?

That’s a possibility because results have been bad this season and after PNE the decision to sack MR made the most “sense”. Whoever has watched our games this season can see we’ve gone backwards from last season. It’s not a POV I share, but could anyone blame King for looking at the last 30 or...

    Robins has to go…

No, you weren’t. However, the post I responded to said that DK drove the recruitment. Most managers aren’t watching and picking players as they would have been in 1990-2010s. Everything is data driven and clubs signing players for the ‘head coaches’ (hired on their footballing philosophies) to...

    Robins has to go…

If you set the agenda of who to sign, and have final say on a signing, that’s recruitment being driven by the manager and his team. Not Doug King. I could be wrong, but I’m confident that Dean Austin was brought in by Mark Robins and before Doug King became owner. Besides… Is this going to be...

    Robins has to go…

It was obviously Robins. He set the profile of player we needed and the final sign off. The picking specific players and minutiae of negotiations was where Dean Austin and Doug King came in.

    Frank Lampard Rumours

The fan base was still behind MR so this appointment is of absolute importance to DK. If he gets it wrong, things could unravel v quickly. Whoever comes in needs to hit the ground running to prove that the decision to sack a living legend was necessary.

I don’t think there’s an issue with the recruitment. It’s too early to judge players like EMC and we have to be frank, was MR getting the best out of these players? Probably not in the end and he may have just lost the group as a whole. With hindsight, the tinkering and changing formations was...

This isn’t a John Eustace-type situation. Birmingham we’re actually doing well last season. We’re not and haven’t been a long time. The debate was ‘can Robins turn it around?’ I don’t see Lampard lasting long in the role and it seems like a lose-lose for us. If he does well, he won’t stay long...

Disagree. This is a results based industry and over the last 30 games has been below expectations. Factor in rumours that both AV and MR had alienated players… The club changed drastically after the sale of Hamer and Gyokeres. We signed higher profile players and they need to managed...

    Frank Lampard Rumours

I don’t think either acts were impulsive. Any other manager produces our form over 30 games and loses 8 of our last 12 home games would probably warrant the sack. Our loyalty to Robins is admirable, but it is a possibility that was holding us back. That’s not a view I personally hold, but I’m...

    Frank Lampard Rumours

I disagree - this is character assassination of King. His first act at the club was to extend MR & AV’s contract and to give them a lot of money to spend. There’s a lot going on at the club clearly if our ‘ITKs’ are getting info that players have checked out and the ‘vibe’ isn’t the same from...

    Devils advocate

King is also unburdened by sentimentality which may prove to be good thing in the end. As loyal supporters, it’s a possibility our loyalty to a living legend blinded us I don’t think it’s egomaniacal to look at our recent form, particularly at home and be completely sure Robins was going to...

    Mark Robins managing another team

We still haven’t come close to replacing that quality and this is particularly evident this season. The manager needs to get quality players in this department asap - we’re no probably going to have to replace Sheaf and possibly Eccles in the summer too.

    Frank Lampard Rumours

Was sacking Robins that dumb? The fan base would not tolerate our form over the last 30 odd games and 8 home losses in 12 from any other manager but Robins. I hold the somewhat contradictory view that a) I wouldn’t tolerate this form from another manager and b) I trusted and believed Robins...

He’s just not a CM at all and is too conservative on the ball. On the positive side, defended well in midfield.

Match Thread Sunderland - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 9th Nov

This is a waste of a Saturday. We’re slow in attack and just ridiculously inaccurate in possession. Tragic defending again.

Right who's the next manager then?

I’d take that too. It’s just not the most likely outcome.

Right who's the next manager then?

Do you mean Jan 2025 or the start of 2025/26. I don’t like the idea of hiring Lampard and as soon as he hits a rut, the knives will be out. He had 2 good seasons at a Derby, Chelsea and he became a laughing stock.
