Does Anthony Gordon not have that profile? He’s obviously not to the standard Vini. We tried something new and it didn’t pay off, it’s not too dissimilar to what other great teams have done before like Man City (Foden and KDB being false 9s) and Real Madrid with Bellingham. Or even some of the...

There’s still a lot of goals in that team, Watkins hasn’t always looked great for England when we’re ball-dominant. The defence was similar to Finland and it went well. I do agree that we lacked balance because in attack we had only the two CBs back. In attack a lot of teams will merge into a...

I do recall that game v well, unfortunately. Carsley got caught out being too attacking on this occasion. I wouldn’t mind him taking the job still if we go on to win the Group. It’s a transitional phase for him and the team and one bad performance and result doesn’t make you a bad manager.

I don’t think it would work, we played something similar under Southgate and it looked underwhelming. Bellingham has played as a false 9 for most of Real Madrid’s games last year so it wasn’t a terrible idea on paper. Looking at the bench yesterday, there wasn’t many game changers on it...

    England - Lee Carsley Era

Plenty of people said that they’d have played a midfield 3 of Rice, Foden and Bellingham and a front 3 of Palmer, Saka and Kane. Bellingham playing as a false 9 wasn’t a terrible idea ‘in theory’ and it’s concerning that without Kane we look bereft of ideas. I wasn’t enamoured with Watkins or...

It can be both you know! 👍🏻 Go through the Euros thread and have a look at many of the poster’s teams. A lot of these suggested XI’s had Palmer, Foden, Saka and Bellingham all in the team.

    Robins has to go…

This is in line with what I’ve been told from a friend and that he was a ‘complicated character’. To add to what you’ve said, it’s been mentioned that he had pretty toxic relationships with players and staff. The whole nature of his departure points to something egregious behind the scenes. If...

    England - Lee Carsley Era

The team was too unbalanced today because we packed the team with too much attacking talent. Ironically, many people were calling for this kind of line up in the build up and during the Euros and today showed exactly why it doesn’t really work because you need to be able to defend. It was an...

    Spent £10m on L1 players

Championship teams aren’t signing Serie A, Bundesliga or Argentina Primera first team players. So you’re taking chances on fringe players at best. The quoted figures you give are for two players, Kitching and EMC. Firstly, in relation to Kitching, it’s unlikely the deal is structured without...

I don’t buy this narrative of anyone actively undermining MR, it doesn’t make sense. If the powers that be no longer believe he’s fit to do the job, just sack him. It is unfathomable that the mood would have changed so drastically so soon.

Questions that I genuinely can't answer

Agreed on the ball carrying point. We've really missed this from Sheaf and whilst he's good at this, he's not one of the best. After Sheff Wednesday, I ranted and raved about how Sheaf and Eccles are too similar and the stats support this and with all due respect to Eccles, Sheaf is better in...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

A question for the OBR as they would have crunch the numbers using ‘x, y and z’ variables. The jist of it would be tax/NI income paid (0% tax on £12.75k) versus what people take out of the NHS and the benefits system (in and out of work). Then there’s the cost of schooling any dependents and...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Well, that’s a problem when these professions are government employees… … half of this so-called £22bn ‘black hole’ in the budget is public sector pay rises. With respect, of the 500-800k net migration, they’re not all going into the NHS, education and other public sector professions. For...

    Spent £10m on L1 players

Imagine the travesty had we let Hamer go for free? I’m sorry, but £15m for that deal was 100% worth it. We just having gone about replacing Hamer in the same we had done replacing Vik, we’d be alright. In reality, the only thing we’ve done to mitigate Hamer leaving is to bring in Torp for £2m...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Sorry @MalcSB, that was sarcasm… you are right though on this. The OBR released statistics on the financial impact of low skilled immigration, which is defined as earning 50% (edit) less than median salary. It’s a net cost of £150,000 per person who entered the country at 25 and stayed until...

    Spent £10m on L1 players

Imagine calling a player who has 32 goal contributions in the league below a ‘hidden gem’. Even if EMC achieves half his output from last season, the numbers are significant and improves our team. He’s come close a few times already and that’s without playing particularly well.

    Spent £10m on L1 players

Really? Barnsley got to the playoff finals with Thomas and Kitching as their captain - I was at their game and they were unlucky to have lost. I’m pretty sure Luton signed one of their CBs too that offseason - so it was a top end L1 unit. They looked a fantastic duo when we switched to 4-2-3-1...
