Other than the issues at Chelsea I just mentioned? I don’t think anyone wants Southgate in the job based on his tactical nous or track record at club level but he’s nevertheless shown himself to be a much more effective manager of the team than other coaches with better CVs. If we’re going to...

Queues already a bit long for tomorrow’s game, still hoping to make it in for kickoff, assume you lot are already inside?

    Gareth southgate

He was a disaster at Chelsea and by most accounts failed to manage the kind of internal politics and player power that would be even more important as England manager. I don’t see why you’re rushing to move on from someone who may not be getting the final results but is certainly getting the...

    Championship thread 23/24

Thought their signings were decent and they looked a good unit under Eustace at the start of the season - I don’t think it’s the new signings’ fault that they decided to tear that up. Any team on their third manager of the season is going to look crap for lengthy periods.

Or the charitable way to describe it is following the script of an “unlucky” defeat to one of the tournament favourites after missing one or more penalties. Losing in tournaments is bad, but the margins of defeat suggest we are not as far away as Southgate’s critics say we are. I know some...

In all seriousness there is no credible English candidate for the job anywhere to be found so unless we completely botch the Euros then I have no issue with him staying.

Match Thread Coventry City - Millwall FC Match Thread - Sunday 11th Feb

They’ve sold 817 for tomorrow and their fans seem to think that’s a decent number. I swear they used to have some kind of convoluted membership scheme that limited who could buy away tickets but either way that’s a dreadful following.

    Alkaline Attacks

There’s CCTV of him leaning over the railing of the bridge and then no sign of him ever walking away. Personally makes much more sense to me that he’d just offed himself a few hours after the attack, rather than a bloke who looks like he’s down to 30% health on Doom walking round London...

Football set to introduce blue cards as major change to the game is signed off

Think it’s a great idea for grassroots and kids football. For professional games it will just lead to teams bunkering and time-wasting for 10 minutes until they’re back to full strength.

    Transfer Rumour Haji Wright

I think Sakamoto’s emergence has been quite obviously down to him switching from a position where he’s not very familiar or very good (wing back) to one where he’s very comfortable and effective (winger).

Football set to introduce blue cards as major change to the game is signed off

It’s impossible for referees to be consistent. And if you give them no leeway on whether something can be considered a foul (or dangerous play, or a red/yellow/blue card offence) then the game will quickly become a tedious box-ticking exercise where the refs are the star.
