We've been getting wins by the odd goal recently, and Sheff Wed apart, we've deserved the wins and looked like we could give some team a good hammering, if it all just clicks...wouldn't it be poetry if we did that to Stoke ?
Phew...glad that's over.
Made a mediocre Oxford side look good at times.
Defence was...not great.
Attack was decent, and 3 goal + pen is a good haul.
Didn't have confidence in Ellis on pen if i'm being honest...short run up and soft shot ensued.
At least it's a win, and results went our way...
We're actually the 2nd best team in the league over the last 6,8,10 and 12 league games (per soccer stats)...the Leeds game being the fly in the ointment.
Good news to get some injured players back...Sheaf and Haji would be a welcome sight on the bench.
Interesting/surprising to hear Frank say on CET website that the club have an additional year option on Sheaf's June 2026 ending contract.
That's the first i've heard of it, but it should hopefully...
I think i'm right in saying that Sunderland have a Cat 1 academy (elite), and we have a Cat 2, so they will almost certainly attract better youth talent.
It's something which Doug and Frank will surely want to pursue in the medium term.
Grimes is a box to box midfielder being asked to sit deep in this formation...he clearly wont be as effective until his instructions are changed.
For what its worth, i though he did a decent, albeit unspectacular job today...i certainly don't remember him giving it away too often. Compare that...
